Isaiah 42:8-9 "I am the LORD: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images. (9) Behold, the former things are come to pass, and new things do I declare: before they spring forth I tell you of them."
"I am the LORD: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images." That is a definite statement that will never change. Jesus said, "For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many." (Matthew 24:5) He then said, "Do not follow them." We understand and hold this great truth: There is One God and One Lord Jesus Christ our Redeemer. God has said He will not give His glory to another. How can we know Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God? Jesus prayed in HIs intercessory prayer, "And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was." That glory was restored upon His resurrection from the grave and ascension back into heaven. It was through the process of the crucifixion of Christ that "the former things are come to pass." The sacrifices required under the law came to an end when the ultimate sacrifice was made. The Lamb of God, Jesus the Christ, came to fulfill the penalty of sin which was required by the law. Those sacrifices, which were only a shadow of that which was to come, were concluded with the offering of the blood of Jesus. "Before they spring forth" (700 years before it happened), Isaiah was inspired to write of "new things." Those new things culminated in the death, burial, and resurrection of our precious Lord. As we continue through this book of Isaiah, we are seeing the prophecy turning toward the coming of our Lord and His earthly work of atonement.
