Psalm 34:6-8 "This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles. (7) The angel of the LORD encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them. (8) O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him."
Jesus said, "Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of
heaven. (4) Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be
comforted." (Matthew 5:3-4) God has promised blessings of comfort
upon His people who see themselves as being in great need. This need doesn't
always represent monetary needs or even physical needs. The greatest need that
any of us have is within our hearts and minds. There are many things in this
world that bring upheaval and unrest that can overwhelm us. Jesus promised it.
We are to believe it and act upon it.
Psalm 34 was written by David at a time when it seemed everyone had turned
against him. He even resorted to his own thinking in order to try to escape a
situation. When he pretended to be a mad man, others let him go because they
were afraid of his behavior. But there comes a time in everyone's life that we
cannot "get by on our own." We may try and try, but there will always
arise something or someone who has the upper hand on us. God has promised
deliverance. He has promised comfort. He has promised blessings to those who
trust Him. He has promised deliverance to those who call upon Him. "And it
shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer; and while they are
yet speaking, I will hear." (Isaiah 65:24) These are promises of God, and
yet, so many times we hesitate or maybe even are so stiff necked (Biblical term
for being hard headed) that we continue to try to blunder our way through
situations. We do this when God has promised to be our ever present help in
time of need. We do this even though God has given an open door to come before
His very throne of grace where we can find mercy and grace to help in time of
need. The promise for today comes with the invitation to "give it a try."
"O taste and see...." God says, "try me and see."
God says it this way in Malachi 3:10, "... prove me now herewith,
saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour
you out a blessing..."
God is so marvelous that this invitation stays open to us. David found out that
when he cried out to God, "the LORD heard him and saved him out of all his
troubles." How is it with you and me? Are we willing to give it a
"taste" to see if God is true to His Word? I can assure you that
He is faithful in all His promises.
