Daily Devotion: Hebrews 13:5-6 (2)

Hebrews 13:5-6      "be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. (6) So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me."

We started looking at these verses yesterday. I want to continue with them for today. We talked about contentment yesterday and the fact that it is a learned virtue. Certainly, we are not born with patience or contentment, but understanding the fulness of these verses help us in that area.

Standing on the promises of Christ, my King!
Through eternal ages let His praises ring.
"Glory in the highest!" I will shout and sing,
standing on the promises of God.

We have the precious promise that "He hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee." We have the precious promise that "The Lord is my helper..." Hopefully we have learned that not one single promise of God has ever failed. These promises tell us that not only is the Lord with us, but He is active in our daily lives. His presence is with us and He has promised to HELP us! When we feel the pressure of life, He picks us up. When we feel alone, He shows us that He is with us. When we need to make decisions, He guides us through the process. When we feel fear in our lives, all these promises give us strength and courage to continue on. Do we remember the promise God made to Joshua? "As I was with Moses, so will I be with thee." God never changes, so even today we can confidently hear God saying to us, "As I was, so I will be." Therefore, going forward in the confidence of the Lord, "we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me."

Several years ago, many young people wore t-shirts with the saying, "No Fear" on them. I did not like those shirts then and I still don't like them today. They gave the message that the person wearing that shirt felt themselves able to overcome anything that life threw at them. That isn't true. None of us are that strong, BUT because " he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee ... we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me." Let us stand firm on that promise!

Daily Devotion: Colossians 1:25-26

Colossians 1:25-26    “Whereof I am made a minister, according to the dispensation of God which is given to me for you, to fulfil the word of God;  Even   the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints:” In verse twenty-four, Paul has expressed his joy in bearing hardship for the church. It is of this church, the body of Jesus Christ, that he is made a minister. Since Paul used the phrase “made a minister” in verse twenty-three of this same chapter, it seems there is something important that he wishes to convey. The Greek word translated as “made” means “to cause to be.” It was the will of God (Col 1:1) that caused Paul to become a minister. God is always the cause of true ministry. Although our fathers may be ministers, if we become true ministers of the gospel it is  not  because our fathers are ministers. True ministers of the gospel do not take that path because they seek honor for themselves, or b...

Daily Devotion: Exodus 7:6-10

Exodus 7:6-10    "And Moses and Aaron did as the LORD commanded them, so did they. And Moses was fourscore years old, and Aaron fourscore and three years old, when they spake unto Pharaoh. And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying, When Pharaoh shall speak unto you, saying, Shew a miracle for you: then thou shalt say unto Aaron, Take thy rod, and cast it before Pharaoh, and it shall become a serpent. And Moses and Aaron went in unto Pharaoh, and they did so as the LORD had commanded: and Aaron cast down his rod before Pharaoh, and before his servants, and it became a serpent." Moses and Aaron had begun to doubt whether they were right for the job the LORD had given them. Here, it is evident that God granted them a renewal of their faith. Moses and Aaron did as the LORD commanded them. In my opinion, all truly successful outcomes in our lives begin with this. Moses and Aaron were not young men. Moses was eighty years old, and Aaron was eighty-three years old. Still,...
