Daily Devotion: Psalm 14:1-3

Psalm 14:1-3     "To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.  (2)  The LORD looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, and seek God.  (3)  They are all gone aside, they are all together become filthy: there is none that doeth good, no, not one."

We look at verse one and try to apply it to others. Yes, there are those in the world today who declare, "There is no God." But we are required to look at these verses as though we are looking in a mirror. I'm thankful to say that as I look around at all the things that we call nature, by faith I know these things are the handiwork of God. "Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear." (Hebrews 11:3) Through faith, we know that God hung the sun, moon, and stars. By faith, we know that He spoke all things into existence. By faith, I KNOW there is a God in heaven. By faith, I know that Psalm 14:7 has been accomplished.  "Oh that the salvation of Israel were come out of Zion! when the LORD bringeth back the captivity of his people, Jacob shall rejoice, and Israel shall be glad." The salvation of Israel has come out of Zion.  By faith, I know that in the fullness of time, He sent forth His Son, made of a woman, to redeem me by allowing Himself to be nailed to that old rugged cross. By faith, I know that Jesus voluntarily laid down His life in order that I might be saved from my sins and transgressions. By faith, I know that after three days and nights, my Lord walked out of that grave alive.

Through faith, we know these things. So where does this faith come from by which I can believe these things? Do I have anything... ANYTHING... by which to boast? NO, I don't! Even the faith by which I know these things is a gift from God. How can I say that? Is it not something inside of me that I can project? Well, let's let Scripture answer this question. 2 Thessalonians 3:2 tells us, "... all men have not faith." We are told in Ephesians chapter 2 that we were dead in tresspasses and sins. There was nothing spiritual about us by which we can claim; rather, we were dead to the things of God. "But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)" (Ephesians 2:4-5)  Yes, of course it is true that the "fool hath said in his heart, There is no God." And I submit to you that that would be me if it had not been for "... God, who is rich in mercy." The salvation of Israel came out of Zion and gave life to me through His Son, Jesus Christ. Yes, that fool would have been me if it had not been for God's rich mercy toward me.

Daily Devotion: Enter With Thanksgiving - Psalm 100:1-5

One of the most beautiful Psalms of Thanksgiving is the 100th Psalm. Please turn to it and read verses one through five. With all my heart I believe we are a people and a nation that has truly been blessed by God. Of all those who “give thanks to Him and praise His name” we should be at the top!  It is not uncommon to compile wish lists at Christmas, and draw up a list of resolutions for the new year. But there is another list we often overlook - a Thanksgiving Day list of all for which we are thankful. What would your list contain? Most likely, a good part would be material possessions. I’m convinced that we would find that we have much more for which to be thankful than just our material possessions.  Like you, I’m sure my list would include the major things - life, health, family, friends, and the nation we live in, despite all its flaws. But even more than that, I’m thankful for my salvation, my Church family, and the mercy that God showers upon us each d...

Daily Devotion: Colossians 1:25-26

Colossians 1:25-26    “Whereof I am made a minister, according to the dispensation of God which is given to me for you, to fulfil the word of God;  Even   the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints:” In verse twenty-four, Paul has expressed his joy in bearing hardship for the church. It is of this church, the body of Jesus Christ, that he is made a minister. Since Paul used the phrase “made a minister” in verse twenty-three of this same chapter, it seems there is something important that he wishes to convey. The Greek word translated as “made” means “to cause to be.” It was the will of God (Col 1:1) that caused Paul to become a minister. God is always the cause of true ministry. Although our fathers may be ministers, if we become true ministers of the gospel it is  not  because our fathers are ministers. True ministers of the gospel do not take that path because they seek honor for themselves, or b...
