Psalm 15:1-5 "A Psalm of David. LORD, who shall abide in thy tabernacle? who shall dwell in thy holy hill? (2) He that walketh uprightly, and worketh righteousness, and speaketh the truth in his heart. (3) He that backbiteth not with his tongue, nor doeth evil to his neighbour, nor taketh up a reproach against his neighbour. (4) In whose eyes a vile person is contemned; but he honoureth them that fear the LORD. He that sweareth to his own hurt, and changeth not. (5) He that putteth not out his money to usury, nor taketh reward against the innocent. He that doeth these things shall never be moved."
David had a lot of questions, didn't he? Questions are meant to make us think.
Some questions have definite answers and some are just meant to make us
meditate upon the goodness of God in contrast to the depravity of man.
"Lord, who shall abide in thy tabernacle? Who shall dwell in thy
holy hill?" To me, these questions are not concerning heaven itself;
rather, they are intended to cause us to think about walking in fellowship with
the Lord each day. Who can enjoy daily fellowship with the Lord? There was a
man named Enoch who was the father of Methuselah. We know very little about him
other than that which is most important to know: "And Enoch walked with
God." We can say that Enoch abode in the tabernacle of God. He walked
uprightly and worked righteousness. He was honorable and as is stated in verse
4, Enoch changed not. He was the same wherever he went. He was the same with
whoever he met. People like that are very refreshing to be around. They are not
easily swayed; but are grounded in the truth of the Almighty.
After the events of yesterday, I find myself rambling this morning. My heart
hurts to know that the life of a young man of 31 years with a beautiful family
was snuffed out for no reason whatsoever, other than he spoke the convictions
of his heart. He was willing to listen to others even when he didn't agree with
them. He loved the Lord and would not compromise His love for Jesus. Wickedness
hates goodness. That's for certain, but also it is certain that wickedness
cannot abide in the tabernacle of the Lord. Our nation needs our prayers. But
we need to do more than just quote 2 Chronicles 7:14. Application must take
place. So I close this morning with these words from our God: "If
my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and
seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven,
and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. (15) Now mine
eyes shall be open, and mine ears attent unto the prayer that is made in this
place." (2 Chronicles 7:14-15)
