Psalm 19:14 "Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer."
This
short prayer by David tells us two things. First, to say it kind of gruffly, we
can let our mouths overload our brains at times. If we aren't careful, words
will come spewing out without any control at all. It's like the little example
of toothpaste. There is no putting it back once it's out of the tube. The book
of James speaks about the tongue and the difficulty we have in taming it. The
second thing this prayer shows us is that we can control our tongue, but only
with the help of the Lord.
This
reminds me that I need to try to make sure that my words are acceptable unto
the Lord. I have found this to be a good prayer to begin each day. I haven't
perfected the taming of the tongue yet, but this gives me a good start each
day.
"Let
the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy
sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer."
