Daily Devotion: Psalm 36:7

Psalm 36:7    "How excellent is thy lovingkindness, O God! therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of thy wings."

Stop a moment and read the first part of this verse again - very slowly. Let me help: "How excellent is thy lovingkindness, O God!" Stop. Look. Listen. What do you hear? What is settling into your heart at this very moment. I'm not talking about a quick skimming of the verse; rather, a slow thoughtful processing of the words that our Heavenly Father is giving to us just now. We talk about God's love. We sing about God's love. We meditate about God's love, but what is in our hearts and minds as we are experiencing His love and mercy? Do we think about His love in our need? Do we think about His love in our abundance? Honestly, it seems to me that the loftiness of my thoughts toward God are directly related to what I am experiencing at the moment. I know it shouldn't be that way. I'm sure it's different with you. I'm nust being honest with myself, for it seems that I must be honest with myself before I can discern my thoughts of my Heavenly Father.

I'm going to tell my age now, but we seem to have a Sears Roebuck Catalog mentality when it comes to rating events and things in life. By that, I mean we rate things as Good, Better, and Best. Yes, that was how Sears rated their products. "This item is good, but we have one that is better. And here, we have the best." Actually, they always began at the best and hoped you would settle for something higher than the "good" one. But how can we rate God's love for us? What do we have to compare it to?  It is when I take my thoughts of my Lord to the highest that I can truly rejoice and exclaim from my depths, "How excellent is thy lovingkindness, O God!"  There is absolutely NOTHING that can compare to my Saviour's love. I leave you with the thought of God's everlasting love. "The LORD hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee." (Jeremiah 31:3) Right at this moment, God is saying to you... I HAVE ALWAYS LOVED YOU!  In your highest moments, I love you. In your lowest moments, I love you. It is through that everlasting love that He bestows His lovingkindness to us. Thank you Heavenly Father! Thank you Jesus! Thank you Holy Spirit!

I Stand Amazed

… I stand amazed in the presence
Of Jesus the Nazarene
And wonder how He could love me
A sinner condemned, unclean
… Oh, how marvelous, how wonderful
And my song will ever be
How marvelous, how wonderful
Is my Savior's love for me

Daily Devotion: Enter With Thanksgiving - Psalm 100:1-5

One of the most beautiful Psalms of Thanksgiving is the 100th Psalm. Please turn to it and read verses one through five. With all my heart I believe we are a people and a nation that has truly been blessed by God. Of all those who “give thanks to Him and praise His name” we should be at the top!  It is not uncommon to compile wish lists at Christmas, and draw up a list of resolutions for the new year. But there is another list we often overlook - a Thanksgiving Day list of all for which we are thankful. What would your list contain? Most likely, a good part would be material possessions. I’m convinced that we would find that we have much more for which to be thankful than just our material possessions.  Like you, I’m sure my list would include the major things - life, health, family, friends, and the nation we live in, despite all its flaws. But even more than that, I’m thankful for my salvation, my Church family, and the mercy that God showers upon us each d...

Daily Devotion: Colossians 1:25-26

Colossians 1:25-26    “Whereof I am made a minister, according to the dispensation of God which is given to me for you, to fulfil the word of God;  Even   the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints:” In verse twenty-four, Paul has expressed his joy in bearing hardship for the church. It is of this church, the body of Jesus Christ, that he is made a minister. Since Paul used the phrase “made a minister” in verse twenty-three of this same chapter, it seems there is something important that he wishes to convey. The Greek word translated as “made” means “to cause to be.” It was the will of God (Col 1:1) that caused Paul to become a minister. God is always the cause of true ministry. Although our fathers may be ministers, if we become true ministers of the gospel it is  not  because our fathers are ministers. True ministers of the gospel do not take that path because they seek honor for themselves, or b...
