Daily Devotion: Isaiah 26:3-4

Isaiah 26:3-4    "Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.  (4)  Trust ye in the LORD for ever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength"

We are constantly bombarded with things that are meant to rob our peace and joy. (Joy is next week's subject.) But it seems every way we turn, there is something that will rob our peace from us if not properly dealt with. A few months ago, I was sitting in a local coffee house enjoying our weekly Bible Study with a group of men. Suddenly, the place began to rumble and shake. It was so sudden and violent that I thought a plane had crashed. It was an earthquake that was centered about 20 miles away. The reason I bring this up just now is because that sudden interruption disturbed the peace of the moment when we were talking about the Lord. It isn't always something so drastic as an earthquake, but daily we are confronted with things - news events, time schedule interruptions, a leaky faucet, or sadly there are times when the news is very much life shattering. How do we deal with these things that intrude into our peace?

Today's passages give us the perfect plan for perfect peace. It's really self explanatory, isn't it? There isn't much that I need to add to this other than try to serve as a reminder to you and to me that the answer is found in our Heavenly Father.  But I must say that in our human frailty, it can be difficult in the midst of the rumbles of life to keep our hearts and minds set upon Jesus. We are as Peter when he took his eyes off Jesus and looked at the wind and waves. Remember? He began to sink, but as soon as he turned back to the Lord and cried out, Jesus lifted him up. The saying is that there is peace in strength. And that is absolutely true. But whose strength are we relying on? Do we think we can work our way through these things and come out on top? Or - is our trust and confidence placed in the only One who is able to see us through? Our Holy God - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit - has promised to give us PERFECT peace when we trust Him and place our confidence in Him. It can be a struggle, but the effort is very much worthwhile.

Wonderful Peace by W.D. Cornell
1 Far away in the depths of my spirit tonight
Rolls a melody sweeter than psalm;
In celestial-like strains it unceasingly falls
O’er my soul like an infinite calm.

3 I am resting tonight in this wonderful peace,
Resting sweetly in Jesus’ control,
For I’m kept from all danger by night and by day,
And His glory is flooding my soul.

Peace, peace! wonderful peace,
Coming down from the Father above,
Sweep over my spirit forever, I pray,
In fathomless billows of love.

Daily Devotion: Psalm 88:1-4

Psalm 88:1-4  A Song or Psalm for the sons of Korah, to the chief Musician upon Mahalath Leannoth, Maschil of Heman the Ezrahite. "O LORD God of my salvation, I have cried day and night before thee:  (2)  Let my prayer come before thee: incline thine ear unto my cry;  (3)  For my soul is full of troubles: and my life draweth nigh unto the grave.  (4)  I am counted with them that go down into the pit: I am as a man that hath no strength" I've said this before and I will say it again (and probably more times before we get to the end of the Psalms) - I love the Psalms because I can surely identify with them. Most Psalms start in a low place and as the writer expresses his thoughts, the Lord begins to lift him up out of that dry place.  Though this entire Psalm is a fervent cry unto the Lord, the Psalmist tells us specifically in three verses that he cried daily unto the Lord. Just a few Psalms ago, we were reminded that God always hears our prayers. ...

Daily Devotion: Enter With Thanksgiving - Psalm 100:1-5

One of the most beautiful Psalms of Thanksgiving is the 100th Psalm. Please turn to it and read verses one through five. With all my heart I believe we are a people and a nation that has truly been blessed by God. Of all those who “give thanks to Him and praise His name” we should be at the top!  It is not uncommon to compile wish lists at Christmas, and draw up a list of resolutions for the new year. But there is another list we often overlook - a Thanksgiving Day list of all for which we are thankful. What would your list contain? Most likely, a good part would be material possessions. I’m convinced that we would find that we have much more for which to be thankful than just our material possessions.  Like you, I’m sure my list would include the major things - life, health, family, friends, and the nation we live in, despite all its flaws. But even more than that, I’m thankful for my salvation, my Church family, and the mercy that God showers upon us each d...
