Psalm 49:6-9 "They that trust in their wealth, and boast themselves in the multitude of their riches; (7) None of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him: (8) (For the redemption of their soul is precious, and it ceaseth for ever:) (9) That he should still live for ever, and not see corruption."
Without actually seeing the word, we can see grace written all over these
verses. The New Testament is very specific to instruct us and to reinforce
within us that we are not saved by our works; rather, it is purely and simply
by God's amazing saving grace. The word, precious, is used in today's passage
and that word jumped off the page to me as I read it. The redemption of our
soul is too precious for it to be cheapened by thinking anything we could ever
do or say would accomplish it. Redemption speaks of the price being paid for
something. It literally means going to the market, paying the price, and
bringing home that which was purchased. In Peter's first letter, we are told
just how precious our redemption is to God. "Forasmuch as ye know
that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from
your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the
precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot"
(1 Peter 1:18-19) There is much to be said concerning this subject, but God's
Word speaks it clearly and with great understanding. Just concentrate on the
word precious as you read the verses that I use in today's writing. Because our
redemption was paid by the precious blood of Christ, then we can read with
better understanding this verse: "Precious in the sight of the LORD
is the death of his saints." (Psalm 116:15) It is precious in the sight of
the Lord because when we leave this world, it will be seen once more that the
precious blood of Christ worked effectively in the redemption of God's people.
The Psalmist brought this particular song to a conclusion with that which will
be the conclusion of all God's people. "But God will redeem my soul from
the power of the grave: for he shall receive me. Selah." (Psalm 49:15)
Our precious home in heaven has been completely paid for by the precious
blood of Jesus Christ, our Lord. It is a precious sight unto our Lord when our
spirits leave our bodies and are returned to God. It is precious in that
through the precious redemption by the precious blood of Christ that God will
redeem from the power of the grave. Selah. Think about this. It's all about Jesus
and His finished work of redemption.
