Daily Devotion: Psalm 62:5-8

Psalm 62:5-8    "My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him.  (6)  He only is my rock and my salvation: he is my defence; I shall not be moved.  (7)  In God is my salvation and my glory: the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God.  (8)  Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us. Selah."

This Psalm, as all of God's Word, is filled with wonderful instruction for us in our approach to each day. For me, each day becomes a battle of the mind and I often need reassurance from the Lord. Maybe that isn't your testimony, if so, then be sure to thank God daily for such a blessing of peace and calmness in your life. But if you sometimes get anxious over the things of this world and the daily news that wars and rumors of wars are all around us, then this Psalm is for you and me. David speaks twice in this one Psalm concerning the beautiful truth that "God is my salvation and my glory." The 9th verse tells us that we cannot place our confidence in men, whether they be of low degree or high degree. Verse 10 tells us, "... set not your heart upon them." We all have experienced the fact that humans will often bring disappointment. They will not meet our expectations, or they fall, or they only see their own good. To that, the Word of God tells us that we are not to place our trust in them or in things.  I began by talking about the need for reassurance. David also had this need from time to time. Read what he says in verse 11, "God hath spoken once; twice have I heard this; that power belongeth unto God." God had spoken on two different occasions to David that power belongs unto the Lord. In reality, this was probably spoken more than twice to David. I know it has been for me.

Let us read and soak in the great truth of today's verses 5-8. He concludes these passages with the word, "Selah." Think on this. Take it into our hearts and minds. Man will disappoint if my expectation is from him. BUT GOD.... yes, But God will never disappoint when our expectation is set upon Him. He may not grant it as we think it should be, but His ways are so much better and holier than my ways could ever be. In struggles, in turmoil, in indecision, in all matters of life, "God is a refuge for us." Therefore, because He is for us, His ways will always be the best way for us to follow. "Trust in Him at all times."

'Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus,
Just to take Him at His Word;
Just to rest upon His promise,
Just to know, "Thus saith the Lord!"

Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him!
How I've proved Him o'er and o'er;
Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus!
Oh, for grace to trust Him more!

Daily Devotion: Colossians 1:25-26

Colossians 1:25-26    “Whereof I am made a minister, according to the dispensation of God which is given to me for you, to fulfil the word of God;  Even   the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints:” In verse twenty-four, Paul has expressed his joy in bearing hardship for the church. It is of this church, the body of Jesus Christ, that he is made a minister. Since Paul used the phrase “made a minister” in verse twenty-three of this same chapter, it seems there is something important that he wishes to convey. The Greek word translated as “made” means “to cause to be.” It was the will of God (Col 1:1) that caused Paul to become a minister. God is always the cause of true ministry. Although our fathers may be ministers, if we become true ministers of the gospel it is  not  because our fathers are ministers. True ministers of the gospel do not take that path because they seek honor for themselves, or b...

Daily Devotion: Exodus 7:6-10

Exodus 7:6-10    "And Moses and Aaron did as the LORD commanded them, so did they. And Moses was fourscore years old, and Aaron fourscore and three years old, when they spake unto Pharaoh. And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying, When Pharaoh shall speak unto you, saying, Shew a miracle for you: then thou shalt say unto Aaron, Take thy rod, and cast it before Pharaoh, and it shall become a serpent. And Moses and Aaron went in unto Pharaoh, and they did so as the LORD had commanded: and Aaron cast down his rod before Pharaoh, and before his servants, and it became a serpent." Moses and Aaron had begun to doubt whether they were right for the job the LORD had given them. Here, it is evident that God granted them a renewal of their faith. Moses and Aaron did as the LORD commanded them. In my opinion, all truly successful outcomes in our lives begin with this. Moses and Aaron were not young men. Moses was eighty years old, and Aaron was eighty-three years old. Still,...
