Daily Devotion: Psalm 98:1-4

Psalm 98:1-4    "O sing unto the LORD a new song; for he hath done marvellous things: his right hand, and his holy arm, hath gotten him the victory.  (2)  The LORD hath made known his salvation: his righteousness hath he openly shewed in the sight of the heathen.  (3)  He hath remembered his mercy and his truth toward the house of Israel: all the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God.  (4)  Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all the earth: make a loud noise, and rejoice, and sing praise."

"O sing unto the LORD."  22 verses in the Psalms speak of singing unto the Lord. Of course we understand the book of Psalms to be a book of songs that were written under different circumstances. But specifically, we are told to sing unto the Lord. Sometimes it is mentioned as making a joyful noise unto the Lord. Our worship is to always be directed unto the Lord God Almighty. Some of the Psalms were written under times of duress. Some were written in times of victory. But all were written unto the Lord.

Today's verses speak of singing a new song unto the Lord; for HE has done marvellous things. I will speak of myself this morning when I am ashamed to  say there are times when words come out of my mouth but my mind is in other places. There are times when I do not feel like singing and other times when I can't stop from singing. There was a time in my life when I dreaded hearing someone call out the page number for Amazing Grace because they would sing all verses so very slowly. BUT, once I experienced God's amazing grace, I now love to sing that brand new song that was first written and sung in 1773. Yes, even the grand old hymns become new songs to us when we come to the understanding of the truth of God's amazing grace and mercy. "The LORD hath made known his salvation: his righteousness hath he openly shewed in the sight of the heathen." He has openly shown His love for me and it behoves me to openly show my love for Him. The very least I can do is sing that sweet sound of grace unto my Lord!

Amazing grace, how sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost, but now I'm found
Was blind, but now I see

Daily Devotion: Colossians 1:25-26

Colossians 1:25-26    “Whereof I am made a minister, according to the dispensation of God which is given to me for you, to fulfil the word of God;  Even   the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints:” In verse twenty-four, Paul has expressed his joy in bearing hardship for the church. It is of this church, the body of Jesus Christ, that he is made a minister. Since Paul used the phrase “made a minister” in verse twenty-three of this same chapter, it seems there is something important that he wishes to convey. The Greek word translated as “made” means “to cause to be.” It was the will of God (Col 1:1) that caused Paul to become a minister. God is always the cause of true ministry. Although our fathers may be ministers, if we become true ministers of the gospel it is  not  because our fathers are ministers. True ministers of the gospel do not take that path because they seek honor for themselves, or b...

Daily Devotion: Enter With Thanksgiving - Psalm 100:1-5

One of the most beautiful Psalms of Thanksgiving is the 100th Psalm. Please turn to it and read verses one through five. With all my heart I believe we are a people and a nation that has truly been blessed by God. Of all those who “give thanks to Him and praise His name” we should be at the top!  It is not uncommon to compile wish lists at Christmas, and draw up a list of resolutions for the new year. But there is another list we often overlook - a Thanksgiving Day list of all for which we are thankful. What would your list contain? Most likely, a good part would be material possessions. I’m convinced that we would find that we have much more for which to be thankful than just our material possessions.  Like you, I’m sure my list would include the major things - life, health, family, friends, and the nation we live in, despite all its flaws. But even more than that, I’m thankful for my salvation, my Church family, and the mercy that God showers upon us each d...
