Daily Devotion: Psalm 119:89-91

Psalm 119:89-91    "Forever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven.  (90)  Thy faithfulness is unto all generations: thou hast established the earth, and it abideth.  (91)  They continue this day according to thine ordinances: for all are thy servants."

History books have to constantly be rewritten. That's a simple but true statement. The things that happened yesterday are now history. They are part of "his story" and can be written in a book in the past tense. The Bible never has to be rewritten. That's also a simple but true statement. The Word of God "is settled (established) in heaven." And we know "there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one." (1 John 5:7) To say that any part of the Bible is not true would be the same as calling God a liar. I'm not that bold. Are you? I may not understand every part of it, but I do believe it is the true Word of God. Jesus said "Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away." (Matthew 24:35)

Why do I spend an entire paragraph re-establishing that fact? We were reminded yesterday that our hope is secured in the Word of God; but, if that Word is not true and applicable today, then our hope is false. From the beginning, God has assured us that He never changes. We read in the first sentence of the first book of the Bible, "In the beginning, God created the heaven and the earth." (Genesis 1:1) We read in Revelation 22:13, "I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last." We read in the next to the last sentence of the last book of the Bible, "He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus." (Revelation 22:20) He was in the beginning. He will be in the end. He is the same from first to last. I know I'm rambling this morning, but I want to be very specific to remind us that the Word which comes from the heart of God will never change because the heart of God never changes. We can base our very lives on that wonderful truth. The world and all that is in it changes every single day, but our God remains the same True and Faithful Lord of glory!  I rejoice in that truth and nothing can sway me from placing my confidence in the love, mercy, and grace of my Lord. How about you?

1 Amazing grace (how sweet the sound) that saved a wretch like me!
I once was lost, but now am found, was blind, but now I see.

2 'Twas grace that taught my heart to fear, and grace my fears relieved;
how precious did that grace appear the hour I first believed!

3 Through many dangers, toils and snares I have already come:
'tis grace has brought me safe thus far, and grace will lead me home.

4 The Lord has promised good to me, his word my hope secures;
he will my shield and portion be as long as life endures.

When we've been there ten thousand years, bright shining as the sun;
we've no less days to sing God's praise than when we first begun.

Daily Devotion: Enter With Thanksgiving - Psalm 100:1-5

One of the most beautiful Psalms of Thanksgiving is the 100th Psalm. Please turn to it and read verses one through five. With all my heart I believe we are a people and a nation that has truly been blessed by God. Of all those who “give thanks to Him and praise His name” we should be at the top!  It is not uncommon to compile wish lists at Christmas, and draw up a list of resolutions for the new year. But there is another list we often overlook - a Thanksgiving Day list of all for which we are thankful. What would your list contain? Most likely, a good part would be material possessions. I’m convinced that we would find that we have much more for which to be thankful than just our material possessions.  Like you, I’m sure my list would include the major things - life, health, family, friends, and the nation we live in, despite all its flaws. But even more than that, I’m thankful for my salvation, my Church family, and the mercy that God showers upon us each d...

Daily Devotion: Exodus 7:6-10

Exodus 7:6-10    "And Moses and Aaron did as the LORD commanded them, so did they. And Moses was fourscore years old, and Aaron fourscore and three years old, when they spake unto Pharaoh. And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying, When Pharaoh shall speak unto you, saying, Shew a miracle for you: then thou shalt say unto Aaron, Take thy rod, and cast it before Pharaoh, and it shall become a serpent. And Moses and Aaron went in unto Pharaoh, and they did so as the LORD had commanded: and Aaron cast down his rod before Pharaoh, and before his servants, and it became a serpent." Moses and Aaron had begun to doubt whether they were right for the job the LORD had given them. Here, it is evident that God granted them a renewal of their faith. Moses and Aaron did as the LORD commanded them. In my opinion, all truly successful outcomes in our lives begin with this. Moses and Aaron were not young men. Moses was eighty years old, and Aaron was eighty-three years old. Still,...
