Daily Devotion: Psalm 134:1-3

Psalm 134:1-3    "Behold, bless ye the LORD, all ye servants of the LORD, which by night stand in the house of the LORD.  (2)  Lift up your hands in the sanctuary, and bless the LORD.  (3)  The LORD that made heaven and earth bless thee out of Zion."

I had a dream last night that I was giving a message to a college class. I don't remember the specific Scripture that I used, but I remember something very specific that I said to them. "Don't ever ever tell the Lord that He can't do something." I remember the impact of that statement hit me so much that I felt like I had to repeat it. "Don't ever ever tell the Lord that He cannot do something. There is nothing impossible with God." Then today, I open my Bible and read the words of verse 3, "The LORD that made heaven and earth bless thee out of Zion."  Bless the Lord, O my soul and all that is within me, bless His holy name! Sometimes it seems that the preaching of the Word has been watered down to the point that we forget our God made heaven and earth out of nothing. He spread out the North over an empty space. He spoke the Word and this universe was created.

What is to be our response to this wonderful truth of God? We are to bless His name! We are to hold Him in our hearts to the highest degree possible. We are to be like that little child when he is about to take a tumble. What does he do? He reaches out his hands toward the one with whom he feels comfortable and safe. Even in the night shadows, our God is with us to uphold and give us strength and courage. Remember when God told Joshua to be strong and courageous? What was the basis for his strength and courage? God had promised, "I will be with thee." That same promise applies to you and me today. God is with us and is our every need! Call out. Reach out. Be comforted. Bless the Lord!

Come, ye weary, heavy laden,
Lost and ruined by the fall;
If you tarry till you’re better,
You will never come at all. [Chorus]

Let not conscience make you linger,
Nor of fitness fondly dream;
All the fitness He requireth
Is to feel your need of Him. [Chorus]

Chorus:
I will arise and go to Jesus,
He will embrace me in His arms;
In the arms of my dear Savior,
O there are ten thousand charms.

Daily Devotion: Psalm 88:1-4

Psalm 88:1-4  A Song or Psalm for the sons of Korah, to the chief Musician upon Mahalath Leannoth, Maschil of Heman the Ezrahite. "O LORD God of my salvation, I have cried day and night before thee:  (2)  Let my prayer come before thee: incline thine ear unto my cry;  (3)  For my soul is full of troubles: and my life draweth nigh unto the grave.  (4)  I am counted with them that go down into the pit: I am as a man that hath no strength" I've said this before and I will say it again (and probably more times before we get to the end of the Psalms) - I love the Psalms because I can surely identify with them. Most Psalms start in a low place and as the writer expresses his thoughts, the Lord begins to lift him up out of that dry place.  Though this entire Psalm is a fervent cry unto the Lord, the Psalmist tells us specifically in three verses that he cried daily unto the Lord. Just a few Psalms ago, we were reminded that God always hears our prayers. ...

Daily Devotion: Enter With Thanksgiving - Psalm 100:1-5

One of the most beautiful Psalms of Thanksgiving is the 100th Psalm. Please turn to it and read verses one through five. With all my heart I believe we are a people and a nation that has truly been blessed by God. Of all those who “give thanks to Him and praise His name” we should be at the top!  It is not uncommon to compile wish lists at Christmas, and draw up a list of resolutions for the new year. But there is another list we often overlook - a Thanksgiving Day list of all for which we are thankful. What would your list contain? Most likely, a good part would be material possessions. I’m convinced that we would find that we have much more for which to be thankful than just our material possessions.  Like you, I’m sure my list would include the major things - life, health, family, friends, and the nation we live in, despite all its flaws. But even more than that, I’m thankful for my salvation, my Church family, and the mercy that God showers upon us each d...
