Daily Devotion: Psalm 140:6-8

Psalm 140:6-8    "I said unto the LORD, Thou art my God: hear the voice of my supplications, O LORD.  (7)  O GOD the Lord, the strength of my salvation, thou hast covered my head in the day of battle.  (8)  Grant not, O LORD, the desires of the wicked: further not his wicked device; lest they exalt themselves. Selah."

Commitment: Now that's a mighty big word. It's a word that seems to have lost its meaning through the years. Verbal agreements mean nothing anymore. A handshake agreement.. What's that? A written contract seems to be of less value than the paper its written on. I'll go ahead and say it... College sports are being ruined by money. Players forget an agreement if they can get more money somewhere else. And of course they are being encouraged to do so by those who have the money. Again I say, "Commitment: Now that's a mighty big word."

Why would I bring up that subject concerning today's verses of Scripture? The writer of the Psalm is making a commitment. "I said unto the LORD, Thou art my God." Now that's a commitment! It should be understood in that statement that no matter what is happening in my life, YOU are my God, O Lord. "You are the strength of my salvation." I couldn't save myself. I didn't deserve to be saved. I didn't earn salvation. But you, O LORD, are the strength of my salvation. You saved me and You keep me saved. You are my strength in the good times and You are my strength in the rough times. "You covered my head in the day of battle." In other words, you are the helmet of salvation that keeps my mind renewed day by day. "Grant not, O LORD, the desires of the wicked." What is the desire of the wicked? Jesus told Peter, "Satan has desired to sift you as wheat." In other words, Satan wants to toss us and tumble us around. He wants to destroy us whether it be physically, mentally, or spiritually. He is walking about seeking whom and how he may devour. But through it all, "Thou art my God." I want no other! Lord, I am committed to you and only you! When I am blessed, I will praise only you! When I am struggling, I will praise only you and I will only look to you for help. You are my God and the strength of my salvation. I trust you, O Lord.

All to Jesus I surrender
All to Him I freely give
I will ever love and trust Him
In His presence daily live

I surrender all - I surrender all
All to You, my blessed Savior
I surrender all

All to Jesus I surrender
Only at Your feet I bow
Worldly pleasures all forsaken
Fill me with Your love and power

Daily Devotion: Psalm 88:1-4

Psalm 88:1-4  A Song or Psalm for the sons of Korah, to the chief Musician upon Mahalath Leannoth, Maschil of Heman the Ezrahite. "O LORD God of my salvation, I have cried day and night before thee:  (2)  Let my prayer come before thee: incline thine ear unto my cry;  (3)  For my soul is full of troubles: and my life draweth nigh unto the grave.  (4)  I am counted with them that go down into the pit: I am as a man that hath no strength" I've said this before and I will say it again (and probably more times before we get to the end of the Psalms) - I love the Psalms because I can surely identify with them. Most Psalms start in a low place and as the writer expresses his thoughts, the Lord begins to lift him up out of that dry place.  Though this entire Psalm is a fervent cry unto the Lord, the Psalmist tells us specifically in three verses that he cried daily unto the Lord. Just a few Psalms ago, we were reminded that God always hears our prayers. ...

Daily Devotion: Enter With Thanksgiving - Psalm 100:1-5

One of the most beautiful Psalms of Thanksgiving is the 100th Psalm. Please turn to it and read verses one through five. With all my heart I believe we are a people and a nation that has truly been blessed by God. Of all those who “give thanks to Him and praise His name” we should be at the top!  It is not uncommon to compile wish lists at Christmas, and draw up a list of resolutions for the new year. But there is another list we often overlook - a Thanksgiving Day list of all for which we are thankful. What would your list contain? Most likely, a good part would be material possessions. I’m convinced that we would find that we have much more for which to be thankful than just our material possessions.  Like you, I’m sure my list would include the major things - life, health, family, friends, and the nation we live in, despite all its flaws. But even more than that, I’m thankful for my salvation, my Church family, and the mercy that God showers upon us each d...
