Psalm 146:1-3 "Praise ye the LORD. Praise the LORD, O my soul. (2) While I live will I praise the LORD: I will sing praises unto my God while I have any being. (3) Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help."
Elizabeth Barrett Browning wrote, "How do I love thee? Let me count the
ways." In that relatively short poem, she describes the manner in
which love is shown. It seems in these last Psalms, that the writer is doing
that on a greater level in showing how and why his love for the Lord grows each
day. We saw several things listed in yesterday's 145th Psalm and today's Psalm
continues that vein of thought. The Psalmist tells us today that his intention
is to love and give praise unto the Lord until the last breath leaves his body.
Because of the death, burial, and resurrection of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus
Christ, we know that after the last breath in this earthen vessel leaves, we
shall praise the Lord in a more glorious fashion in glorified bodies!
What wondrous love is this, O my soul. I want to list those reasons from
this Psalm for his commitment to praising our Lord. Can you and I identify with
any, or all, of them?
In verse 5, we see that we have hope (blessed assurance) in our Lord.
In verse 6, we are reminded that it our God who made heaven, and earth, the
sea, and all that therein is.
Also in verse 6, we see God is the One which keepeth truth for ever.
In verse 7, We see God executes judgment for the oppressed: which giveth
food to the hungry. And we see the LORD looseth the prisoners.
In verse 8, The LORD openeth the eyes of the blind: the LORD raiseth them
that are bowed down: the LORD loveth the righteous:
And in verse 9, The LORD preserveth the strangers; he relieveth the
fatherless and widow: but the way of the wicked he turneth upside down.
What can we add to that list that motivates our commitment unto the Lord? What
has God done for you today? Do we have enough pen, ink, and paper to express
it?
1 Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine!
O, what a foretaste of glory divine!
Heir of salvation, purchase of God,
born of His Spirit, washed in His blood.
Refrain:
This is my story, this is my song,
praising my Savior all the day long;
this is my story, this is my song,
praising my Savior all the day long.
