Daily Devotion: Matthew 4:23-25

Matthew 4:23-25     "And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people. And his fame went throughout all Syria: and they brought unto him all sick people that were taken with divers diseases and torments, and those which were possessed with devils, and those which were lunatick, and those that had the palsy; and he healed them. And there followed him great multitudes of people from Galilee, and from Decapolis, and from Jerusalem, and from Judaea, and from beyond Jordan."

Jesus was of the tribe of Judah, and according to the law, He was not a priest. Jesus was not a scribe, a Pharisee, or a Sadducee. Jesus was not an officer of the temple. However, He was regularly found in the synagogues teaching from the Word of God.

He travelled around Galilee preaching the gospel of His kingdom. He was able to heal all kinds of diseases and sickness (even those considered incurable). Jesus was famous throughout the region for wisdom and well-doing. He was looked upon favorably by God and man (Luke 2:52).

There is an order in the way God (Father, Son, and Holy Ghost) do things. First, Jesus taught (caused others to learn) the Truth. Then He went about preaching (being God’s official Herald) the good news of the kingdom of God. After the teaching of God’s word, and the preaching of the good news of the kingdom, He healed all manner of sickness and disease.

Today, the fame of Jesus Christ still resonates throughout the world. By the revelation of the Holy Spirit, God’s word is still taught. Through the calling of God, the gospel of the kingdom is still being preached. And God is still healing all manner of sickness and disease, even as He uses the hands and minds of men as His instruments.

As we continue to follow the life of Jesus through the Gospel as recorded by Matthew, we will see that He was always in favor with God. In teaching the truth of God and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, He fell out of favor with men. The Truth of God is light, and carnal minds prefer the darkness in hope of hiding their evil deeds (John 3:19). Regardless of men’s notions, Jesus has healed all our diseases because He has put away sin from those He died for.

Dear ones, being a disciple of Christ and a believer in the truth of God is never going to make us popular with the world or those who are legally religious. Christ has taught us that we must deny ourselves, take up our cross daily (Luke 9:23), and follow Him. Seeking God’s order gives us hope and peace. Be assured that there will always be a witness to the love and majesty of God, to preach the gospel of the kingdom.

Daily Devotion: Knowing God By Bearing Fruit

Some will notice the title is not “Bearing fruit because we know God,” so to avoid getting sidetracked with that, we can start with the fact that we won’t bear any godly fruit unless our heart has been changed and the Holy Spirit dwells within us.
