Proverbs 12:25 "Heaviness in the heart of man maketh it stoop: but a good word maketh it glad."
Solomon had much to say about the spoken word. Paul was inspired to write that
we are to "confess with our mouth and believe in our hearts" that God
has raised Jesus from the dead. He said, "Every tongue shall confess that
Jesus Christ is Lord." Jesus said we are to "confess Him before
men...." (Luke 12:8) Yes, our words are very important. We saw
yesterday that they can feed life into another or they can cause
heaviness. How do we work against that heaviness of heart hits us?
When I ask that question, my mind immediately thought about hoping for someone
to come along and say something nice to me. That's a good thing when it
happens, but it doesn't always work that way. So, how can I combat a heavy
heart when it hits home? God gave us the answer through Solomon, "... a
good word maketh it glad." That good word does not always have to
come from another person. In fact, the best way to combat that heavy heart is
by reaching out to others. Instead of expecting "a good word," what
would happen if I "give a good word" to another person? When I
am only focused on myself, the heaviness becomes unbearable, but I am lifted
out of that droop when I move my thoughts to someone else and act in that
direction. Why would I not stretch myself toward another instead of withdrawing
into myself. And of course, the best word to be found comes in the
Bible. Jesus loves me this I know; therefore, my heart is lifted when I
read His good Words to me. Does that work for you also?
