Isaiah 52:7 "How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace; that bringeth good tidings of good, that publisheth salvation; that saith unto Zion, Thy God reigneth!"
"How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good
tidings." To keep this in context, these words were written
concerning the news that Judah would be returned, the wall and the temple would
be rebuilt. No doubt, those who published the fact of liberation from enslavement
would be considered to have sweet voices and blessed news: "You're free to
go home!" We always want to keep Scripture in the context that it was
written, but there is a spiritual application to these words as well. The
commentator writes of these words to apply to John the Baptist. I'm thinking of
John as he stood in the river watching Jesus approach. He declared,
"Behold the Lamb of God which taketh away the sin of the world."
Though the people did not understand it, we read those words to have great
meaning. He brought good tidings that after all the years of prophecy spoken,
the Messiah had arrived. This is the One Who will fulfill the law and make the
ultimate sacrifice to free God's people from the bondage of sin. How beautiful
are John's feet as he moves about to declare the glorious Gospel. And today, we
can also say, "How beautiful upon Mount Zion (the church of Jesus Christ)
are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace; that
bringeth good tidings of good, that publisheth salvation; that saith unto Zion,
Thy God reigneth!" The Gospel Preacher, called and set apart by God
and empowered by the Holy Spirit brings wonderful tidings which brings great
joy and peace into our hearts and minds. "Our God reigns!" How
beautiful is that message to us who hear and receive that message as it is
truly the message of God. There is One in Whom we can place our utmost trust
and confidence. His name is Jesus, the Son of God.
Our God Reigns (by Lenny Smith)
It was our sin and guilt
That bruised and wounded Him.
It was our sin that brought Him down.
When we like sheep had gone astray
Our Shepherd came
And on His shoulders bore our shame.
Our God reigns! Our God reigns!
Our God reigns! Our God reigns!
