Isaiah 64:4 "For since the beginning of the world men have not heard, nor perceived by the ear, neither hath the eye seen, O God, beside thee, what he hath prepared for him that waiteth for him."
Some 750 years later, the Apostle Paul would repeat the words of today's
passage. Let's review them just now before we continue. But also let's see the
blessings that you and I have because of God's amazing grace. "But as it
is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the
heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.
(10) But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the
Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God." (1 Corinthians
2:9-10) The reason that I wanted to include verse 10 of Paul's writing is to
show us just how blessed we truly are. I'm so thankful that the Holy Spirit
inspired Paul to include verse 10 as well as the rest of the chapter. Eye
has not seen. Ear has not heard. We cannot even begin to imagine the glorious
wonders that God has prepared for those who love Him. We can only try to
imagine what heaven is like. John was inspired to use earthly things to try to
describe heavenly matters. But these things, both in Isaiah and the
writing of Paul, is not only talking about heaven. Yes, Jesus went to prepare a
place for us and He is coming back to receive us unto Himself. But in the
meantime, while we are here on earth, God has prepared places of comfort and
rest for us while we go down this pathway called life.
What is the key? Again I say the eye hasn't seen. Ear hasn't heard. Our
imaginations can not take us there. Yet, God has "revealed them unto us by
His Spirit." We have the Spirit of God abiding within us. He speaks to us
everyday. He guides us. He reminds us of the words of Jesus. He warns us. He
commends us. In other words, God, the Holy Spirit, is very active in our lives.
Sometimes, we might be guilty of ignoring Him. (I'm sorry Lord.) Sometimes, we
might be guilty of going against Him. (I'm sorry Lord.) But, "... in those
is continuance, and we shall be saved." (Isaiah 64:5) That place is
still prepared. By faith, Jesus does meet us there. There is beauty to behold.
Gladness to receive. And our hearts are lifted up in rejoicing before the Lord.
In other words, God is faithful. This is not something to take advantage of.
This is not something that gives us liberty to live like the world. Rather,
God's faithfulness should spur us to strive to live godly lives in Christ
Jesus. (I'm sorry Lord that I fail too often.) I want to wait upon you,
Lord. I want to walk with you, Lord. I want to hear your voice speaking to me
each day, Lord. Because "... they that wait upon the LORD shall
renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run,
and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint."
