Revelation 19:5-6 "And a voice came out of the throne, saying, Praise our God, all ye his servants, and ye that fear him, both small and great. (6) And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of mighty thunderings, saying, Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth."
I know I am running the danger of people looking at the text verse and begin to
just skim over it. But I am trusting God to impress upon each mind the utmost
importance of taking into our hearts and minds the absolute fact that our God,
indeed, has ALL power both in heaven and in earth. I'm trying to break it down
into pieces that allow us to think upon the many facets of life in which God is
an active participant with us. He doesn't just sit up there twiddling His
thumbs while waiting for us to call for His help. He is very active every day
that we live, from the time we wake up until the time we go to sleep. And then
He is active from the time we go to sleep until the time we wake up the next
morning. Those things of our physical body that take place every millisecond
are controlled by Almighty God. We don't have to actively tell our heart to
beat each time. We don't have to tell our lungs to take each breath. Those are
simply two of the bodily actions that our God has built into our bodies that
control actions for us. Our hearts should be stirred as we are reminded of
these things to the point that we boldly proclaim our praise, "ALLELUIA !!
for the Lord God OMNIPOTENT reigneth."
What does it mean that our God reigns? We sing that song, and I will place the
words here shortly. But do we really understand and do we mean it when we say,
"Our God reigns"? Do we? Or, do we somehow think that the destiny of
our lives is in our own hands? Do we simply need God to give us a nudge every
once in a while when we get stuck? Or, do we understand that from the point of
conception on through eternity, we need the Lord? Every breath, every beat of
the heart, every step we take, in EVERYTHING, we need the Lord. The word,
reigneth, speaks of the very foundation of power. We learned in elementary
school that all power on the earth originates in the sun. But where does the
power of the sun originate? Where is the foundation of power both in the
physical, emotional, and especially the spiritual realm of life? Our God
REIGNS!! I began this series by asking that we spend time meditating upon this
great truth of the absolute power of God. In order to do that, we have to move
ourselves out of the way. But peace begins to settle in our hearts and minds
when we can come to the place of realizing that God, Who sits upon the throne
of heaven, is in control. Then we can place our trust and confidence in His
power, wisdom, and love for us.
OUR GOD REIGNS
Written by Lenny Smith
How lovely on the mountains are the feet of him,
Who brings good news, good news;
Announcing peace, proclaiming news of happiness.
Our God Reigns! Our God Reigns!
He had no stately form, He had no majesty
That we should be drawn to Him.
He was despised and we took no account of Him.
Yet now He reigns, with the Most High.
It was our sin and guilt that bruised and wounded Him.
It was our sin that brought Him down.
When we like sheep had gone astray our Shepherd came,
And on His shoulders He bore our shame
Our God reigns! Our God reigns!
Our God reigns! Our God reigns!
Our God reigns! Our God reigns!
Our God reigns! Our God reigns!
