Daily Devotion: Psalm 103:1-2 and 68:19

Psalm 103:1-2     "Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name.  (2)  Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits"

Psalm 68:19    "Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation. Selah."

Yes, the Lord  loads us with benefits (blessings) every single day that we live.  In Psalm 40:5, we are reminded that "... they cannot be reckoned up in order unto thee..." In other words, they are more than we could possibly number; yet, we are to strive to maintain a grateful heart unto the Lord. It is quite an honor each day to try to list those blessings as we give thanks unto the Lord. I am thankful that we have a day set aside each year that we call Thanksgiving; but, we all know that every day should be that day of thankfulness unto the Lord. Notice the word, "daily," in the 68th Psalm. If God blesses us daily, then we should also be thankful to Him each day.

"What shall I render unto the LORD for all his benefits toward me?" (Psalm 116:12) How could we possibly repay the Lord for all those benefits (blessings) that He constantly is loading us with? The writer of Hebrews tells us, "By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name. But to do good and to communicate forget not: for with such sacrifices God is well pleased." (Hebrews 13:15-16) By Him (Jesus Christ), let us offer the sacrifice of praise.  By Him, let us strive to do good and to communicate to others those wonderful things the Lord has done for us. When the man who was possessed with legions of demons was healed, he wanted to go with Jesus. But instead, Jesus told him, "Go home to thy friends, and tell them how great things the Lord hath done for thee, and hath had compassion on thee." (Mark 5:19) We all have such a sweet testimony to give to others about the blessings of our Lord. Let us be bold in declaring daily the goodness of God.

Daily Devotion: Enter With Thanksgiving - Psalm 100:1-5

One of the most beautiful Psalms of Thanksgiving is the 100th Psalm. Please turn to it and read verses one through five. With all my heart I believe we are a people and a nation that has truly been blessed by God. Of all those who “give thanks to Him and praise His name” we should be at the top!  It is not uncommon to compile wish lists at Christmas, and draw up a list of resolutions for the new year. But there is another list we often overlook - a Thanksgiving Day list of all for which we are thankful. What would your list contain? Most likely, a good part would be material possessions. I’m convinced that we would find that we have much more for which to be thankful than just our material possessions.  Like you, I’m sure my list would include the major things - life, health, family, friends, and the nation we live in, despite all its flaws. But even more than that, I’m thankful for my salvation, my Church family, and the mercy that God showers upon us each d...

Daily Devotion: Colossians 1:25-26

Colossians 1:25-26    “Whereof I am made a minister, according to the dispensation of God which is given to me for you, to fulfil the word of God;  Even   the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints:” In verse twenty-four, Paul has expressed his joy in bearing hardship for the church. It is of this church, the body of Jesus Christ, that he is made a minister. Since Paul used the phrase “made a minister” in verse twenty-three of this same chapter, it seems there is something important that he wishes to convey. The Greek word translated as “made” means “to cause to be.” It was the will of God (Col 1:1) that caused Paul to become a minister. God is always the cause of true ministry. Although our fathers may be ministers, if we become true ministers of the gospel it is  not  because our fathers are ministers. True ministers of the gospel do not take that path because they seek honor for themselves, or b...
