Daily Devotion: Psalm 100:1-5

Psalm 100:1-5   A Psalm of praise. "Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands.  (2)  Serve the LORD with gladness: come before his presence with singing.  (3)  Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.  (4)  Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.  (5)  For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations."

"Know ye that the LORD he is God." As I read the 100th Psalm this morning, this verse seems to be the hinge upon which all the other verses are settled. Know ye that the LORD he IS God. Jesus prayed in His intercessory prayer, "And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent." (John 17:3) We read in the book of Hebrews chapter 11:6, "... he that cometh to God must believe that he is..."  It seems these verses, along with many others, are revealing to us that God's design is for us to have a daily relational walk with Him whereby we come into a closer fellowship of knowing Him. Paul prayed in Ephesians 3:19, "... know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge..." That seems like an impossibility, doesn't it? He is praying that we will know something that is beyond knowledge; yet, God is saying that we are to strive each day to do as Peter wrote in the closing of his second letter. We are to "grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ." (2 Peter 3:18)

The more that we know God, the more bold we become in our praise, worship, and service unto Him. The more we know Christ, the more we place our confidence and trust in Him. The more we know God, the more thankful we become and the more vocal our praise becomes. The closer we walk with God, the more joy we have in our lives. The more we know God, the less we depend upon ourselves and the more we lean upon Him.  We are to grow in grace. That doesn't mean (as Paul stated) that we sin more so grace abounds more; rather it means that we are to trust Him and seek His divine guidance in our lives. Now the question remains: How do we come to the place of knowing the Lord? It begins with prayer, studying the Scriptures, and meditating upon what we read.  It seems to me that it is a lifelong process of daily interaction with our Saviour. Each day, I want to love Him more and I want to know Him better.

1 With Jesus I would ever be, His matchless name adore;
He’s done so very much for me, I want to love Him more..

2 He died upon the cruel tree, Our load of guilt He bore;
He suffered shame for you and me, I want to love Him more. [Chorus]

3 His children He will not forsake, When troubles press them sore;
But in their souls sweet peace awakes, I want to love Him more. [Chorus]

4 O Prince of life, sweet Prince of peace, Who dwelt on earth below.
My faith in Him will never cease, I want to love Him more. [Chorus]

Chorus:
I want to love Him more,
I want to love Him more,
He’s done so very much for me
I want to love Him more

Daily Devotion: Colossians 1:25-26

Colossians 1:25-26    “Whereof I am made a minister, according to the dispensation of God which is given to me for you, to fulfil the word of God;  Even   the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints:” In verse twenty-four, Paul has expressed his joy in bearing hardship for the church. It is of this church, the body of Jesus Christ, that he is made a minister. Since Paul used the phrase “made a minister” in verse twenty-three of this same chapter, it seems there is something important that he wishes to convey. The Greek word translated as “made” means “to cause to be.” It was the will of God (Col 1:1) that caused Paul to become a minister. God is always the cause of true ministry. Although our fathers may be ministers, if we become true ministers of the gospel it is  not  because our fathers are ministers. True ministers of the gospel do not take that path because they seek honor for themselves, or b...

Daily Devotion: Exodus 7:6-10

Exodus 7:6-10    "And Moses and Aaron did as the LORD commanded them, so did they. And Moses was fourscore years old, and Aaron fourscore and three years old, when they spake unto Pharaoh. And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying, When Pharaoh shall speak unto you, saying, Shew a miracle for you: then thou shalt say unto Aaron, Take thy rod, and cast it before Pharaoh, and it shall become a serpent. And Moses and Aaron went in unto Pharaoh, and they did so as the LORD had commanded: and Aaron cast down his rod before Pharaoh, and before his servants, and it became a serpent." Moses and Aaron had begun to doubt whether they were right for the job the LORD had given them. Here, it is evident that God granted them a renewal of their faith. Moses and Aaron did as the LORD commanded them. In my opinion, all truly successful outcomes in our lives begin with this. Moses and Aaron were not young men. Moses was eighty years old, and Aaron was eighty-three years old. Still,...

Daily Devotion: Enter With Thanksgiving - Psalm 100:1-5

One of the most beautiful Psalms of Thanksgiving is the 100th Psalm. Please turn to it and read verses one through five. With all my heart I believe we are a people and a nation that has truly been blessed by God. Of all those who “give thanks to Him and praise His name” we should be at the top!  It is not uncommon to compile wish lists at Christmas, and draw up a list of resolutions for the new year. But there is another list we often overlook - a Thanksgiving Day list of all for which we are thankful. What would your list contain? Most likely, a good part would be material possessions. I’m convinced that we would find that we have much more for which to be thankful than just our material possessions.  Like you, I’m sure my list would include the major things - life, health, family, friends, and the nation we live in, despite all its flaws. But even more than that, I’m thankful for my salvation, my Church family, and the mercy that God showers upon us each d...
