Hebrews 6:17-19 "Wherein God, willing more abundantly to shew unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath: (18) That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us: (19) Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil"
How many times in your lifetime have you used these two words, "I
promise..."? I can't even begin to imagine how many times those words have
come out of my mouth. I know God has said, "Better is it that thou
shouldest not vow, than that thou shouldest vow and not pay."
(Ecclesiastes 5:5) I know that is true; yet, too many times I have not always
been able to follow through with those promises. It wasn't an intentional
thing, but circumstances dictate actions at times. I had good intentions, but
was not always able to keep all those promises. That is not the case with the
Lord.
Nothing ever comes up unexpectedly on God. There is nothing that ever takes Him
by surprise. He never has to go to "Plan B" because of something that
He didn't know was going to happen. I will say that there are many of God's
promises that are predicated on conditions being met by us. " IF my
people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and
seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; THEN will I hear from heaven,
and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land." (2 Chronicles 7:14)
You see in that promise, there is an "if and a then".
That promise is based upon His people humbling, praying, seeking, and turning.
But in today's promise found in Hebrews 6, we find that God's promise is based
entirely upon HIMSELF! Because He was "willing to show" the
unchangeability of His promise, He confirmed (based the promise) on Himself.
What was that promise? In "the fulness of the time was come, God
sent forth his Son.. to redeem..." (Galatians 4:5-6) He made that promise
before the world began and when the time came, He fulfilled that promise. The
Lord willing, tomorrow we will look at the effect of that promise on our lives.
But today, I want to just stop and think about the faithfulness and goodness of
our Lord.

I love You, Lord
For Your mercy never fails me
All my days, I've been held in Your hands
From the moment that I wake up
Until I lay my head
Oh, I will sing of the goodness of God
'Cause all my life You have been faithful
And all my life You have been so, so good
With every breath that I am able
Oh, I will sing of the goodness of God
