Hebrews 6:17-19 "Wherein God, willing more abundantly to shew unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath: (18) That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us: (19) Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil"
Yesterday, we thought about God's faithfulness to His promises. Today, I want
to think about the "anchor of (my) soul" and His name is Jesus.
God was willing to show "unto the heirs of promise the immutability
(unchangeability, faithfulness) of his counsel (and He) confirmed it by an oath."
He has given us that wonderful hope (blessed assurance) that anchors our
souls. The assurance of that anchor (stability) in our lives is none other than
our precious Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. That hope is "sure and
stedfast" and has "entered into the veil". God has given
us the assurance of that promise through the work of Jesus Christ.
Jesus was given the promise that has also been given "unto the heirs of
promise". That great promise is the promise of resurrection. We have
been given the promise of "hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot
lie, promised before the world began." We have been given the
promise of "his abundant mercy (that) hath begotten us again unto a lively
hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead." (1 Peter
1:3) We have been given the promise, "... because I live, ye shall
live also." God is willing to show us the unchangeability of that promise.
Notice that word used in KJV, "immutability of his counsel". God does
not waver, nor draw back, from His promise. I'm going to make a very bold
statement now. IF God is not true to the promise of eternal life, if He wavers
back and forth in the promise of life in Christ Jesus, then NO OTHER promise
holds any value for us. If we cannot have stability of eternity with Christ,
then we cannot have any stability in this life either. I praise the blessed
name of Jesus. He is alive! He was raised from the dead. AND "... because
(HE) lives, (you and I) shall live also." It's a done deal !!
