Daily Devotion: Psalm 29:4

Psalm 29:4     "The voice of the LORD is powerful; the voice of the LORD is full of majesty."

There are so many applications to this verse. "Let there be light. Noah build an ark. Abram, go to a land where I will show you. Moses strike the rock. Moses speak to the rock. David use your sling to kill Goliath. Stretch forth thine hand. Lazarus, Come forth. I AM HE." These are just a few that show the absolute sovereign power of the Almighty God and His Son, Jesus the Christ. The Holy Spirit brings the voice of the Lord into our hearts each time we read the Word of God. The written words are powerful as He makes applications in our lives. He uses the Word to correct us, to instruct us, to comfort us, and to soothe our weariness as we go through this life. His voice is majestic as we hear Him speak through the blue skies, the clouds, the raindrops, the birds singing, a friend speaking encouragement. "The heavens declare the glory of God..." (Psalm 19:1)  Yes, the Lord speaks to us each day.

Why is it that there are days we seemingly cannot hear that voice? Could it be that the noise of the world becomes so loud that it crowds out that voice? Could it be that we listen to all the other noises more intently? I'm full of questions this morning as I do a self examination. Could it be that I am expecting God to speak in one way when He is softly speaking to my heart? Elijah had to learn through his stillness, that God does not always speak through lightning, fires, great winds, or earthquakes. More times than not, it is that "still, small voice" that comes to us even in the storms of our lives where God is speaking powerful words. I am feeling this morning that I need to practice the art of sitting quietly and listening as God speaks to me from His Holy Word. It may be that I need to practice the art of staying quiet after I have prayed to hear God answer my prayers. Maybe I become too busy as soon as I stop praying that I "busy out" the hearing of His voice. But one thing is for certain, "The voice of the LORD is powerful; the voice of the LORD is full of majesty."

Daily Devotion: Colossians 1:25-26

Colossians 1:25-26    “Whereof I am made a minister, according to the dispensation of God which is given to me for you, to fulfil the word of God;  Even   the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints:” In verse twenty-four, Paul has expressed his joy in bearing hardship for the church. It is of this church, the body of Jesus Christ, that he is made a minister. Since Paul used the phrase “made a minister” in verse twenty-three of this same chapter, it seems there is something important that he wishes to convey. The Greek word translated as “made” means “to cause to be.” It was the will of God (Col 1:1) that caused Paul to become a minister. God is always the cause of true ministry. Although our fathers may be ministers, if we become true ministers of the gospel it is  not  because our fathers are ministers. True ministers of the gospel do not take that path because they seek honor for themselves, or b...

Daily Devotion: Exodus 7:6-10

Exodus 7:6-10    "And Moses and Aaron did as the LORD commanded them, so did they. And Moses was fourscore years old, and Aaron fourscore and three years old, when they spake unto Pharaoh. And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying, When Pharaoh shall speak unto you, saying, Shew a miracle for you: then thou shalt say unto Aaron, Take thy rod, and cast it before Pharaoh, and it shall become a serpent. And Moses and Aaron went in unto Pharaoh, and they did so as the LORD had commanded: and Aaron cast down his rod before Pharaoh, and before his servants, and it became a serpent." Moses and Aaron had begun to doubt whether they were right for the job the LORD had given them. Here, it is evident that God granted them a renewal of their faith. Moses and Aaron did as the LORD commanded them. In my opinion, all truly successful outcomes in our lives begin with this. Moses and Aaron were not young men. Moses was eighty years old, and Aaron was eighty-three years old. Still,...
