Psalm 1:1-3 "Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. (2) But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. (3) And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper."
I think this may be my third time to go through the Psalms in my morning
devotions. I realize some things may be a repetition but I have to tell you
that I like repetition meals also. I don't get tired of mashed potatoes, okra,
cream corn and cornbread. I could eat it over and over and over. In fact, I
have eaten it over and over and I enjoy it each time as though it is my first
time ever to eat those good things. So, even if I repeat some things, I am
certain that there will be things that I see this time that will be as though
it is the first time I have ever read (eaten) it. I pray it will be the same
for you as well.
"Blessed is the man that walketh..." The Psalmist goes on to speak
about the things that man (woman) does not do and then he goes on to write
about the stature, or manner, of that individual. As I read this first Psalm,
my thoughts went to our conversation at the breakfast table. We feel that
people who are consistent and always paying attention to the "little
things" are those people who make a difference in the lives of others. But
what is it about those people that make them different? The short answer to
that is to understand that the presence of the Lord in our lives makes us
different from the things that the world promotes. It is paying attention to
the Word of God and drinking it in on a daily basis that gives strength and
direction in our lives. It is not only what they take into themselves; rather,
it is what they give of themselves that makes the lives of others to be
enriched. Debby and I mentioned names in our conversation. I won't do that here
because I don't want to embarrass anyone, but I want you to know that those
"little things" that you do are the very things that are remembered.
Those things make the lives of others so much better and as the Word of God
says, it enriches your life as well. It's the fruit that is given that
makes a difference! In case I have failed to say this before, I want to say
just now - Thank you!
