Daily Devotion: Psalm 2:1-7

Psalm 2:1-7    "Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?  (2)  The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying,  (3)  Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.  (4)  He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.  (5)  Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure.  (6)  Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion.  (7)  I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee."

Do you ever get frustrated when your plans do not come together like you thought they should? How about when you set out to do something, but there seems to be one part of it that just does not work. Or my favorite: You buy something that says, "Some assembly required." Now those are some of my favorite words! I just put together a stand on which I place my work materials for my studies. Yes, "Some assembly required." I'm venting now. When I opened the box, there were so many small pieces of wood and screws and dowels. I finally got it together and then realized that the bottom shelf was upside down. I wasn't about to take it apart and fix that one shelf. Now the blemish is covered with books and notebooks and stuff like that.  Other than venting, I'm trying to make a point to myself that there are times in my own mind that I "take counsel together" and say to myself, "I've got this." Well then I read this, "Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?" I only imagine that I've got it when the truth is, "No! I don't."  That's the truth on an individual scale and also true on the world's stage. Kings, rulers, leaders of nations think they "have this", but in reality, No! They don't.

I imagine that God is sitting up there with at least a smile on His face during those times when I think I have my life all together and am in absolute control. I look back on times and have to laugh at myself, so I'm pretty sure it is at those times that "He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh." He even allows us to think that we are in control sometimes when, all that time, He still sits on His throne as He reigns and rules over this entire universe. Whatever the level of control that anyone thinks they may have, the truth of the matter is that our God has "set my king upon my holy hill of Zion." Who is this King of Zion? Well "the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee." His name is Jesus! Here's the wonderful thing about all this:  By the work of Jesus, in the person of Jesus, and through His marvelous grace, I am a son of God. I want to praise His glorious name!

Daily Devotion: Colossians 1:25-26

Colossians 1:25-26    “Whereof I am made a minister, according to the dispensation of God which is given to me for you, to fulfil the word of God;  Even   the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints:” In verse twenty-four, Paul has expressed his joy in bearing hardship for the church. It is of this church, the body of Jesus Christ, that he is made a minister. Since Paul used the phrase “made a minister” in verse twenty-three of this same chapter, it seems there is something important that he wishes to convey. The Greek word translated as “made” means “to cause to be.” It was the will of God (Col 1:1) that caused Paul to become a minister. God is always the cause of true ministry. Although our fathers may be ministers, if we become true ministers of the gospel it is  not  because our fathers are ministers. True ministers of the gospel do not take that path because they seek honor for themselves, or b...

Daily Devotion: Exodus 7:6-10

Exodus 7:6-10    "And Moses and Aaron did as the LORD commanded them, so did they. And Moses was fourscore years old, and Aaron fourscore and three years old, when they spake unto Pharaoh. And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying, When Pharaoh shall speak unto you, saying, Shew a miracle for you: then thou shalt say unto Aaron, Take thy rod, and cast it before Pharaoh, and it shall become a serpent. And Moses and Aaron went in unto Pharaoh, and they did so as the LORD had commanded: and Aaron cast down his rod before Pharaoh, and before his servants, and it became a serpent." Moses and Aaron had begun to doubt whether they were right for the job the LORD had given them. Here, it is evident that God granted them a renewal of their faith. Moses and Aaron did as the LORD commanded them. In my opinion, all truly successful outcomes in our lives begin with this. Moses and Aaron were not young men. Moses was eighty years old, and Aaron was eighty-three years old. Still,...
