Daily Devotion: Psalm 18:31

Psalm 18:31    "For who is God save the LORD? or who is a rock save our God?"

Who IS God? How would you answer that question? I see that question and I have to wonder, "How do I actually answer that question?" There is another question along that line that makes me think of another question: "What is thy beloved more than another...?" (Song of Solomon 5:9) I look at those questions and begin to give answers such as these: God created heaven and the earth. God saved Noah and his family through the flood. God parted the Red Sea. God gave manna from heaven and water from the rock. God became the man, Jesus, who died on the cross. Jesus was buried but was raised again after three days and three nights.  All of that is true and there is so much more than that, but I believe David was seeking deep inside himself to see what HIS answer would be to that question.  In the Song of Solomon, people were asking the love of Christ to answer the question. What makes your beloved to be better than any other? I'm having to look deep inside myself this morning because I believe all of the truths that I have already mentioned have personal applications to me and to you.

Who is in charge of my life? Who is the very One who gives stability and purpose to my life? Who does those things in your life? God took emptiness and filled it with goodness. God delivered from absolute destruction. God makes a way for me when I think there is no way. God provides my every need each day. Jesus was born in Bethlehem and the announcement was made, "... unto you (unto me) is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord." (Luke 2:11) He's my Deliverer. But most of all, He is my Saviour! He is Christ, the King of my life. He is alive and makes intercession while He sits at the right hand of the Father. He is constantly praying for me. He lives inside me by way of His Holy Spirit. He never leaves me and never turns His back on me. My relationship with Him makes every other relationship to be so much better. He is the stability that I need while traveling this path called life. He is the One certain thing in this upside down world that we live in. David answered those questions that applied to him (and to us) in Psalm 18:32-40.  I want to spend time today in thought concerning God, my Lord. I want my relationship with Him to be so much deeper than it ever has been.

Words from "Lord I Need You" by Matt Maher
Lord I come, I confess
Bowing here, I find my rest
Without You, I fall apart
You're the one that guides my heart

Lord, I need You, oh, I need You
Every hour, I need You
My one defense, my righteousness
Oh God, how I need You

Where sin runs deep, Your grace is more
Where grace is found is where You are
And where You are, Lord, I am free
Holiness is Christ in me

Daily Devotion: Enter With Thanksgiving - Psalm 100:1-5

One of the most beautiful Psalms of Thanksgiving is the 100th Psalm. Please turn to it and read verses one through five. With all my heart I believe we are a people and a nation that has truly been blessed by God. Of all those who “give thanks to Him and praise His name” we should be at the top!  It is not uncommon to compile wish lists at Christmas, and draw up a list of resolutions for the new year. But there is another list we often overlook - a Thanksgiving Day list of all for which we are thankful. What would your list contain? Most likely, a good part would be material possessions. I’m convinced that we would find that we have much more for which to be thankful than just our material possessions.  Like you, I’m sure my list would include the major things - life, health, family, friends, and the nation we live in, despite all its flaws. But even more than that, I’m thankful for my salvation, my Church family, and the mercy that God showers upon us each d...

Daily Devotion: Colossians 1:25-26

Colossians 1:25-26    “Whereof I am made a minister, according to the dispensation of God which is given to me for you, to fulfil the word of God;  Even   the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints:” In verse twenty-four, Paul has expressed his joy in bearing hardship for the church. It is of this church, the body of Jesus Christ, that he is made a minister. Since Paul used the phrase “made a minister” in verse twenty-three of this same chapter, it seems there is something important that he wishes to convey. The Greek word translated as “made” means “to cause to be.” It was the will of God (Col 1:1) that caused Paul to become a minister. God is always the cause of true ministry. Although our fathers may be ministers, if we become true ministers of the gospel it is  not  because our fathers are ministers. True ministers of the gospel do not take that path because they seek honor for themselves, or b...
