Psalm 18:46 "The LORD liveth; and blessed be my rock; and let the God of my salvation be exalted."
There are four declarations in this one verse of Scripture. I would like for us
to set our hearts and minds on these statements and meditate upon them today.
The first declaration is this, "The LORD liveth." He's alive! Yes,
He's alive! We do not serve an idol made with man's hands; rather, we love and
serve the One Who spoke this universe into existence. We serve the One Who has
shown Himself to be alive and active throughout the ages. We serve the One Who
LIVES within us. I love that old hymn that says, "You ask me how I know He
lives - He lives within my heart!" Throughout time, people have tried to
say that God is dead. I will have nothing to do with that falsehood for you
see, my God is alive and well and doing just fine. The second statement says,
"Blessed be my rock." He is my rock, my stability, the One upon
whom I can lean upon and depend upon. He is never changing; therefore, I can
know that He is always on His throne at all times. He is worthy of my praise.
His ways are higher than my ways. His thoughts are higher than my thoughts. His
paths are always the ways of righteousness. "He leads me in the paths of
righteousness for HIS name sake." He is pure and holy and righteous and
true and faithful at all times.
The third statement says, "He is my salvation." I'm reminded of Jonah
in the belly of the whale at the bottom of the sea. When he had nothing else
upon which he could trust, he came to his senses (as the prodigal son) and
confessed, "Salvation is of the Lord." As the Apostle Peter stated,
"Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name
under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved." (Acts 4:12) There
is no other that I can turn to. Let me go a step farther to say, there is no
other that I want to turn to. Only Jesus, my God, my Saviour, my Lord, and my
friend. The last declaration is a matter of commitment: "Let the God of my
salvation be exalted." There is only one way that I can truly exalt my
Lord. Paul stated it in this manner, "Wherefore God also hath highly
exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name
of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and
things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ
is Lord, to the glory of God the Father." (Philippians 2:9-11)
With all that is within me, may I say it one more time along with David:
"The LORD liveth; and blessed be my rock; and let the God of my salvation
be exalted." Let us rejoice and be glad in this great truth!
