Daily Devotion: Psalm 27:1-4

Psalm 27:1-4       A Psalm of David.   "The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?  (2)  When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell.  (3)  Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident.  (4)  One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to enquire in his temple."

In these four verses we find a declarative statement, experience, hope, and desire. "The Lord is...." No matter what is happening in my life, those three words never change. The Lord is... my light. He is the One who illuminates my path and gives me understanding concerning situations and circumstances. The Lord is... my salvation. He is my Deliverer! He is my constant Companion even when I am walking in the valley of shadows. He is with me. The Lord is my strength. He is the One who encourages me when times come upon me that make me think, "I can't do this." He reminds me that I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me. Those are declarative statements of truth. The Lord is.. He never changes.

My experience tells me that those great truths become reality in my life when Satan would try to destroy me. My Lord tells me that I belong to Him and no weapon formed against me will be successful. My Lord tells me that His blood has washed away all my sins and nothing can separate me from His love. My Lord tells me that when the accuser of the brethren stands against me, Jesus stands for me! These great truths and past experiences secures the hope within me that holds me tight in the precious arms of my Lord and Saviour. I can have complete confidence in my Lord's love and ability to deliver me. As I meditate upon these things, my desire grows within me that tells me I want to walk just as close as I possibly can to my precious Lord. I want to live in constant fellowship with Him that by faith I might see His glorious beauty and gain in His divine knowledge. My prayer is that these things will always be at the forefront of my daily walk.

I am weak but Thou art strong
Jesus keep me from all wrong
I'll be satisfied as long as I walk
Dear Lord, close to Thee.
Just a closer walk with Thee
Grant it Jesus, is my plea
Daily walkin' close to Thee
Let it be, dear Lord, let it be.

Daily Devotion: Mark 14:65-67

Mark 14:65-67    "And some began to spit on him, and to cover his face, and to buffet him, and to say unto him, Prophesy: and the servants did strike him with the palms of their hands.  (66)  And as Peter was beneath in the palace, there cometh one of the maids of the high priest:  (67)  And when she saw Peter warming himself, she looked upon him, and said, And thou also wast with Jesus of Nazareth." It's always nice and sweet when Devotions make us feel good about ourselves. But sometimes the Word of God causes me to become uncomfortable. Today's verses bring me to that place. It would be so very easy for me to look at the contrast between what was happening to Jesus and what was happening with Peter. It would be very comfortable for me to sit here this morning and condemn Peter for standing outside by the fire while Jesus was inside being mocked, spat upon, and struck by the servants of the high priest. It would be easy for me to sit here and say, "...
