Psalm 30:4-8 "Sing unto the LORD, O ye saints of his, and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness. (5) For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning. (6) And in my prosperity I said, I shall never be moved. (7) LORD, by thy favour thou hast made my mountain to stand strong: thou didst hide thy face, and I was troubled. (8) I cried to thee, O LORD; and unto the LORD I made supplication."
We love verse 4, don't we? How often have you heard it quoted, or how many
times have you quoted it yourself? Yes, we love and our hope is based on
"joy cometh in the morning." I'm thankful for that, aren't you?
But the verses surrounding that particular verse depict the highs and lows of
life. There are times in our lives when we feel there is no mountain that can
stand against us. There are times when our faith is so strong and viable that
we can say to that mountain, "Be thou removed," and it will be taken
away. But David spoke of a time when seemingly he felt he had strength
within himself to remove any and all obstacles in his path.
"LORD, by thy favour thou hast made my mountain to stand strong: thou
didst hide thy face, and I was troubled." How could David feel
an insurmountable obstacle to be God's favor upon him? Yes, there are times
when it seems life is so difficult that we can see no way over, around, or
through the difficulty. What are we to do? Can we see it as God's favor upon
us? If I step back and assess the situation, then yes I can see that obstacle
as God's favor. You see, that difficult situation, when approached properly,
will draw me closer to my Heavenly Father. That nearness unto the
Father is that which brings joy as the Dayspring dawns upon our hearts. David
acknowledged that. When he could not get past the mountain, he "cried to
thee, O LORD; and unto the LORD I made supplication." It is by and
through God's grace that we can endure each day.
Consecrate me now to Thy service, Lord,
By the pow’r of grace divine;
Let my soul look up with a steadfast hope,
And my will be lost in Thine.
Draw me nearer, nearer, nearer, blessed Lord,
To the cross where Thou hast died;
Draw me nearer, nearer, nearer, blessed Lord,
To Thy precious, bleeding side.
