Psalm 42:1-2 To the chief Musician, Maschil, for the sons of Korah. "As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God. (2) My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God?"
I'll tell you my age now. I'm thinking of a hot summer day and I have been
playing outside. I was hot, sweaty, and thirsty. Where was I going to get a
drink of water? Ahh... Yes, there it is - the water hose !! Nothing was
better than turning on the water, letting it run for a moment, and then
drinking from that hose like there was nothing else! There is such a
wonderful feeling when your thirst is quenched by cold water. Soft drinks, tea,
and energy drinks may offer a momentary satisfaction, but ONLY water can
satisfy that deep thirst.
Likewise, there is a thirst inside every one of us that needs to be quenched.
Large corporations spend trillions of dollars every year trying to persuade the
public that their product can satisfy that need. Whether it be a new house, a
new car, a new lawnmower, washing machine, can opener, or some other gadget,
they promise satisfaction with their product. David was very specific
concerning his thirst and the source of satisfaction. It is important for each
of us to come to the conclusion just as David did. "My soul thirsteth for
God!" As the deer runs through the forest trying to escape the predator,
there comes a moment when the cool stream of water invites him to stop and find
refreshment. For us, there is no other place to find relief. It is still true
today. Only our Lord can satisfy that need that is inside us. Only God! Help me
Lord to drink from that well of living water. "But whosoever drinketh of
the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall
give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting
life." (John 4:14) Lord, please give me that water to satisfy my
thirsty soul.
There Is A River by David Sapp
There is a river And it flows from deep within
There is a fountain That frees the soul from sin
Come to this water There is a vast supply
There is a river That never shall run dry
