Daily Devotion: Psalm 42:1-2

Psalm 42:1-2    To the chief Musician, Maschil, for the sons of Korah.   "As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God.  (2)  My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God?"

I'll tell you my age now. I'm thinking of a hot summer day and I have been playing outside. I was hot, sweaty, and thirsty. Where was I going to get a drink of water? Ahh... Yes, there it is - the water hose !!  Nothing was better than turning on the water, letting it run for a moment, and then drinking from that hose like there was nothing else!  There is such a wonderful feeling when your thirst is quenched by cold water. Soft drinks, tea, and energy  drinks may offer a momentary satisfaction, but ONLY water can satisfy that deep thirst.

Likewise, there is a thirst inside every one of us that needs to be quenched. Large corporations spend trillions of dollars every year trying to persuade the public that their product can satisfy that need. Whether it be a new house, a new car, a new lawnmower, washing machine, can opener, or some other gadget, they promise satisfaction with their product. David was very specific concerning his thirst and the source of satisfaction. It is important for each of us to come to the conclusion just as David did. "My soul thirsteth for God!" As the deer runs through the forest trying to escape the predator, there comes a moment when the cool stream of water invites him to stop and find refreshment. For us, there is no other place to find relief. It is still true today. Only our Lord can satisfy that need that is inside us. Only God! Help me Lord to drink from that well of living water. "But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life." (John 4:14)  Lord, please give me that water to satisfy my thirsty soul.

There Is A River by David Sapp

There is a river And it flows from deep within
There is a fountain That frees the soul from sin
Come to this water There is a vast supply
There is a river That never shall run dry

Daily Devotion: Enter With Thanksgiving - Psalm 100:1-5

One of the most beautiful Psalms of Thanksgiving is the 100th Psalm. Please turn to it and read verses one through five. With all my heart I believe we are a people and a nation that has truly been blessed by God. Of all those who “give thanks to Him and praise His name” we should be at the top!  It is not uncommon to compile wish lists at Christmas, and draw up a list of resolutions for the new year. But there is another list we often overlook - a Thanksgiving Day list of all for which we are thankful. What would your list contain? Most likely, a good part would be material possessions. I’m convinced that we would find that we have much more for which to be thankful than just our material possessions.  Like you, I’m sure my list would include the major things - life, health, family, friends, and the nation we live in, despite all its flaws. But even more than that, I’m thankful for my salvation, my Church family, and the mercy that God showers upon us each d...

Daily Devotion: Exodus 7:6-10

Exodus 7:6-10    "And Moses and Aaron did as the LORD commanded them, so did they. And Moses was fourscore years old, and Aaron fourscore and three years old, when they spake unto Pharaoh. And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying, When Pharaoh shall speak unto you, saying, Shew a miracle for you: then thou shalt say unto Aaron, Take thy rod, and cast it before Pharaoh, and it shall become a serpent. And Moses and Aaron went in unto Pharaoh, and they did so as the LORD had commanded: and Aaron cast down his rod before Pharaoh, and before his servants, and it became a serpent." Moses and Aaron had begun to doubt whether they were right for the job the LORD had given them. Here, it is evident that God granted them a renewal of their faith. Moses and Aaron did as the LORD commanded them. In my opinion, all truly successful outcomes in our lives begin with this. Moses and Aaron were not young men. Moses was eighty years old, and Aaron was eighty-three years old. Still,...
