1 Corinthians 1:7-9 “So that ye come behind in no gift; waiting for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall also confirm you unto the end, that ye may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.”
The evidence of Christ having been confirmed in the saints at Corinth (1Co 1:6), they were not lacking in any gift. This statement is still true today for every one of us in whom the evidence of Jesus is confirmed. Our Heavenly Father has seen to it that we do not fall short of that with which He endows His believing children. We fully expect (wait for) the manifestation (coming) of our Lord Jesus Christ.
We do fully expect to see Him plainly when we no longer have this veil of flesh because of the great price He has paid for us. However, that is not the only time we should look for His appearing. Every time we pick up God’s word to study, we should fully expect to see Jesus. When we bow ourselves before God’s throne in prayer, we should fully expect to see Him. As we gather to worship and praise, we should fully expect to see Him.
As we continue on in this letter, we are going to see Paul dealing with the problems that can face the church today. He is not dealing with something out in the future, and we should not think that the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ is only for some distant future. Our Lord and Master confirms us (holds us steadfast) throughout our journey here. He does not just hold us steadfast in the end, but He holds us steadfast in our journey to the end.
Our steadfastness in Him comes from His work in us, and there is a definite goal in sight. He confirms us unto the end so that we should stand unaccused (see Strong’s definition for the word rendered blameless) in the time of our Lord Jesus Christ. If today is the day of salvation (2Co 6:2), then this is the day of Jesus Christ our Savior. When we are blessed to realize that He is our Saviour daily and for eternity, then we have entered into the day (age, judgement) of Jesus.
God is faithful! These words should bring us unbounded joy. In a world where men see no harm in being deceitful for their own gain, God is faithful. Even though our closest and dearest friends in life may turn against us, God is faithful. When we fail, God is faithful. This faithful God is the one who has called us. He has called us unto the fellowship (participation, communion) of his Son Jesus Christ!
May we give Him honor and glory for the wonder of having fellowship with His only begotten Son!
