Daily Devotion: Psalm 70:4-5

Psalm 70:4-5    "Let all those that seek thee rejoice and be glad in thee: and let such as love thy salvation say continually, Let God be magnified.  (5)  But I am poor and needy: make haste unto me, O God: thou art my help and my deliverer; O LORD, make no tarrying."

We saw these same words in an earlier Psalm: "I am poor and needy."  In Psalm 40:17, these words are added, "I am poor and needy; yet the Lord thinketh upon me: thou art my help and my deliverer; make no tarrying, O my God." Isn't it such a tremendous blessing to know that the Lord thinks about you. He carries you in His heart. You are in His thoughts constantly. The beautiful part is that while you are constantly in His thoughts; even so, I am also. I cannot think two thoughts at the same time, but I'm thankful that God is able to do just that. But even knowing that, sometimes we get a little impatient. Don't we? We want it to happen on our time schedule; which is definitely not the Lord's time schedule. One of my new favorite songs is entitled, "Until Prayer Changes Me" by the Kingdom Heirs. One of the lines in the song says, "I ask God to change it so I can arrange it according to my master plan." I won't speak for you, but I'm afraid I've been guilty of this way too many times. It seems the Psalmist may have been guilty of it in this particular writing also, for he adds, "O Lord make no tarrying." Don't wait too long, Lord.

I write all that, but my experience has taught me that God makes no mistakes and is always right on time. Another song by Karen Peck and New River says, "He's always on time even when He's four days late." I need reminding quite often of that fact and as I am reminded, then my love and appreciation for God's timing grows and is strengthened. I rejoice to know God hears my prayers. I rejoice to know that even though I am indeed poor and needy; yet the Lord thinketh upon me." How about you? I love the salvation (deliverances) of the Lord. I love the fact that He has saved me from eternal torment to eternal bliss. I love the fact that He saved me from darkness to light. I love the fact that He saved me to His glorious peace and joy. I love the fact that Jesus loves me; therefore, I want to do all I can to make sure that my God is magnified in my thoughts, words, and actions. He is worthy!

1 There is a name I love to hear, I love to sing its worth; it sounds like music in my ear, the sweetest name on earth.

2 It tells me of a Savior's love, who died to set me free; it tells me of his precious blood, the sinner's perfect plea.

3 It tells of one whose loving heart can feel my deepest woe; who in each sorrow bears a part that none can bear below. [Refrain]

O how I love Jesus, O how I love Jesus, O how I love Jesus, because he first loved me!

Daily Devotion: Colossians 1:25-26

Colossians 1:25-26    “Whereof I am made a minister, according to the dispensation of God which is given to me for you, to fulfil the word of God;  Even   the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints:” In verse twenty-four, Paul has expressed his joy in bearing hardship for the church. It is of this church, the body of Jesus Christ, that he is made a minister. Since Paul used the phrase “made a minister” in verse twenty-three of this same chapter, it seems there is something important that he wishes to convey. The Greek word translated as “made” means “to cause to be.” It was the will of God (Col 1:1) that caused Paul to become a minister. God is always the cause of true ministry. Although our fathers may be ministers, if we become true ministers of the gospel it is  not  because our fathers are ministers. True ministers of the gospel do not take that path because they seek honor for themselves, or b...

Daily Devotion: Isaiah 66:1

Isaiah 66:1    "Thus saith the LORD, The heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool: where is the house that ye build unto me? and where is the place of my rest?" "The heaven is my throne..."  We know this is symbolic of God's authority.  Let me use God's Word to describe the things concerning this subject.  "And after these things I heard a great voice of much people in heaven, saying, Alleluia; Salvation, and glory, and honour, and power, unto the Lord our God. And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of mighty thunderings, saying, Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth." (Revelation 19:1,6) Yes, God reigns and rules in heaven. All power belongs to Him both in heaven and in earth. Every knee shall bow and every tongue shall confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of the Father. Though Isaiah was inspired to write in symbolism, these words are not symbolic, but ...

Daily Devotion: Enter With Thanksgiving - Psalm 100:1-5

One of the most beautiful Psalms of Thanksgiving is the 100th Psalm. Please turn to it and read verses one through five. With all my heart I believe we are a people and a nation that has truly been blessed by God. Of all those who “give thanks to Him and praise His name” we should be at the top!  It is not uncommon to compile wish lists at Christmas, and draw up a list of resolutions for the new year. But there is another list we often overlook - a Thanksgiving Day list of all for which we are thankful. What would your list contain? Most likely, a good part would be material possessions. I’m convinced that we would find that we have much more for which to be thankful than just our material possessions.  Like you, I’m sure my list would include the major things - life, health, family, friends, and the nation we live in, despite all its flaws. But even more than that, I’m thankful for my salvation, my Church family, and the mercy that God showers upon us each d...
