Daily Devotion: Psalm 72:17-19

Psalm 72:17-19    "His name shall endure for ever: his name shall be continued as long as the sun: and men shall be blessed in him: all nations shall call him blessed. (18) Blessed be the LORD God, the God of Israel, who only doeth wondrous things. (19) And blessed be his glorious name for ever: and let the whole earth be filled with his glory; Amen, and Amen."

 I believe stability is one of the greatest needs that we have from birth until death. Change can be a frightening and unnerving thing. In today's verses, we find the ultimate stability that will ever exist. "His name shall endure for ever." We serve the same God today who spoke this universe into existence and continues to sustain it every moment of every day. The Psalmist used words that described his thoughts about God when he said, "his name shall be continued as long as the sun." We often hear something described as, "sure as the sun will rise in the morning," such and so is going to happen.

 

Well, one day the sun will cease to shine, but we won't need that sunshine anymore. We read in Revelation 22:5, "And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light: and they shall reign for ever and ever." Yes, the sun will cease to shine, but the SON will never stop shining in His glory! But today, the "whole earth is filled with His glory." He shines all around us, but sometimes we allow our emotions or circumstances to bring a cloud over us. That doesn't mean God has ceased to shine. Every single day, He is constantly doing "wondrous things" in our lives and all around us.  My thought today is that I want to be more mindful of my Lord and I want to be a lamp that shines out His glory.

 

I am so wondrously Saved from sin. Jesus so sweetly Abides within. There at the cross where He took me in.Glory to His name.

Daily Devotion: Isaiah 66:1

Isaiah 66:1    "Thus saith the LORD, The heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool: where is the house that ye build unto me? and where is the place of my rest?" "The heaven is my throne..."  We know this is symbolic of God's authority.  Let me use God's Word to describe the things concerning this subject.  "And after these things I heard a great voice of much people in heaven, saying, Alleluia; Salvation, and glory, and honour, and power, unto the Lord our God. And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of mighty thunderings, saying, Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth." Daily Devotion: Enter With Thanksgiving - Psalm 100:1-5

One of the most beautiful Psalms of Thanksgiving is the 100th Psalm. Please turn to it and read verses one through five. With all my heart I believe we are a people and a nation that has truly been blessed by God. Of all those who “give thanks to Him and praise His name” we should be at the top!  It is not uncommon to compile wish lists at Christmas, and draw up a list of resolutions for the new year. But there is another list we often overlook - a Thanksgiving Day list of all for which we are thankful. What would your list contain? Most likely, a good part would be material possessions.
