Daily Devotion: Psalm 75:1

Psalm 75:1  To the chief Musician, Altaschith, A Psalm or Song of Asaph.   "Unto thee, O God, do we give thanks, unto thee do we give thanks: for that thy name is near thy wondrous works declare."

"Thy wondrous works declare."  Have you ever heard someone say, "Well, where is God in all this?"  The thought of that question is saying, "God should not have allowed this (or that) to happen."  But who am I to say what God should, or should not, do? Yes, there are a lot of questions floating around this morning. This winter, we have been intrigued by the birds. Even when it was snowing, we could hear the birds even more loudly proclaiming the glorious works of God. Every Spring, the flowers and trees proclaim the glorious works of God when they begin to show the brilliant colors given to them.  My heart is filled with praise this morning as this verse of Scripture strikes and stirs my heart. Every Fall, the trees proclaim the wondrous works of God as they change into the beautiful oranges and reds; and yes, even as the leaves turn loose and fall to the ground. This, and so much more are declarations of God's marvelous works and His faithfulness. Even when we think God is not close, we can be assured that He never leaves us. (Yes, this may sound like AI talking, but it's really Steve)

But there's more. You see, we are God's workmanship created in Christ Jesus unto good works that God has foreordained that we should walk in them. (See Ephesians 2:10) As His workman (one of His marvelous works), should we not be declaring His name above all things. Should we not constantly give thanks unto Him? Should we not be as the birds chirping loudly, the flowers displaying this colors, and all other parts of nature in that we boldly proclaim His glory? I'm afraid that we as God's people have tried to act too much like the world and have forgotten that we have one main purpose. Yes, we have one purpose in life and that purpose is fulfilled by the way we think, the way we talk, and the way we walk. Our purpose is "That we should be to the praise of his glory." (Ephesians 1:12) My desire this morning is that I would accomplish that purpose each day that I live. How about you?

We praise thee, O God, For the Son of thy love,
For Jesus who died And is now gone above.

Hallelujah, thine the glory! Hallelujah, Amen!
Hallelujah, thine the glory! Revive us again.

Revive us again; Fill each heart with Thy love;
May each soul be rekindled With fire from above.

Hallelujah, thine the glory! Hallelujah, Amen!
Hallelujah, thine the glory! Revive us again.

Daily Devotion: Colossians 1:25-26

Colossians 1:25-26    “Whereof I am made a minister, according to the dispensation of God which is given to me for you, to fulfil the word of God;  Even   the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints:” In verse twenty-four, Paul has expressed his joy in bearing hardship for the church. It is of this church, the body of Jesus Christ, that he is made a minister. Since Paul used the phrase “made a minister” in verse twenty-three of this same chapter, it seems there is something important that he wishes to convey. The Greek word translated as “made” means “to cause to be.” It was the will of God (Col 1:1) that caused Paul to become a minister. God is always the cause of true ministry. Although our fathers may be ministers, if we become true ministers of the gospel it is  not  because our fathers are ministers. True ministers of the gospel do not take that path because they seek honor for themselves, or b...

Daily Devotion: Isaiah 66:1

Isaiah 66:1    "Thus saith the LORD, The heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool: where is the house that ye build unto me? and where is the place of my rest?" "The heaven is my throne..."  We know this is symbolic of God's authority.  Let me use God's Word to describe the things concerning this subject.  "And after these things I heard a great voice of much people in heaven, saying, Alleluia; Salvation, and glory, and honour, and power, unto the Lord our God. And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of mighty thunderings, saying, Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth." (Revelation 19:1,6) Yes, God reigns and rules in heaven. All power belongs to Him both in heaven and in earth. Every knee shall bow and every tongue shall confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of the Father. Though Isaiah was inspired to write in symbolism, these words are not symbolic, but ...

Daily Devotion: Enter With Thanksgiving - Psalm 100:1-5

One of the most beautiful Psalms of Thanksgiving is the 100th Psalm. Please turn to it and read verses one through five. With all my heart I believe we are a people and a nation that has truly been blessed by God. Of all those who “give thanks to Him and praise His name” we should be at the top!  It is not uncommon to compile wish lists at Christmas, and draw up a list of resolutions for the new year. But there is another list we often overlook - a Thanksgiving Day list of all for which we are thankful. What would your list contain? Most likely, a good part would be material possessions. I’m convinced that we would find that we have much more for which to be thankful than just our material possessions.  Like you, I’m sure my list would include the major things - life, health, family, friends, and the nation we live in, despite all its flaws. But even more than that, I’m thankful for my salvation, my Church family, and the mercy that God showers upon us each d...
