Daily Devotion: Psalm 81:1-3

Psalm 81:1-3  To the chief Musician upon Gittith, A Psalm of Asaph.   "Sing aloud unto God our strength: make a joyful noise unto the God of Jacob.  (2)  Take a psalm, and bring hither the timbrel, the pleasant harp with the psaltery.  (3)  Blow up the trumpet in the new moon, in the time appointed, on our solemn feast day."

I read through Psalm 80 and Psalm 81 this morning. I confess that I could not get a grip on the Scriptures as I read them. I have sat here struggling to get a message to share with you this morning and so far, nothing came to my heart and mind. I tried to come up with something out of my own thoughts and it came to a blank page in my mind. What was I to do? I just couldn't come up with a devotion that I felt gave a message of strength and encouragement. I thought about continuing to skip over the Psalms until something came to my mind. I thought about going to a familiar passage and going away from the Psalms this morning. Then I went back and started reading this 81st Psalm once again. Then the Holy Spirit spoke to my heart as I read these first three verses.

Here are my thoughts for the day:  Even when I feel nothing is happening, God is worthy of my praise!  How's that? Do you ever feel like there is nothing going on that you want to just lift up your heart for a particular matter and saying, "Thank you, Lord!"  I sat here - empty. I mean, I'm supposed to come up with something everyday, aren't I? Well, here is my thought: "Sing aloud unto God our strength."  It doesn't matter if I feel like jumping up and shouting or not. God is worthy of my praise. Yes! He is!  No matter what is happening in my life - "Sing unto the Lord."  When I feel like the weight of the world is on my shoulder - "Sing unto the Lord."  He is worthy of our praise at all times!  SING UNTO THE LORD!!

(Revelation 5:11-12)    "And I beheld, and I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne and the beasts and the elders: and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands;  (12)  Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing."
Let us join with them in singing His praises!  Worthy the Lamb that was slain

Worthy the Lamb by Bill and Gloria Gaither

Hear the cries of the shackled from the onset of time
For the chains of defeat theres no key
See the tears of the broken, the cries of the slaves:
Is there no one worthy to set us free?

Then the crying is stilled as the chorus rings out
The shackled released from their chains
And thousands of voices are swelling the song:
Worthy the Lamb that was slain

Worthy, worthy
Worthy the Lamb that was slain

Then all the archangels, the saints of all time
Holding their crowns in their hands
Fall down before Him joining the song:
Worthy, worthy the Lamb!

Worthy, worthy
Worthy the Lamb that was slain

Daily Devotion: Colossians 1:25-26

Colossians 1:25-26    “Whereof I am made a minister, according to the dispensation of God which is given to me for you, to fulfil the word of God;  Even   the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints:” In verse twenty-four, Paul has expressed his joy in bearing hardship for the church. It is of this church, the body of Jesus Christ, that he is made a minister. Since Paul used the phrase “made a minister” in verse twenty-three of this same chapter, it seems there is something important that he wishes to convey. The Greek word translated as “made” means “to cause to be.” It was the will of God (Col 1:1) that caused Paul to become a minister. God is always the cause of true ministry. Although our fathers may be ministers, if we become true ministers of the gospel it is  not  because our fathers are ministers. True ministers of the gospel do not take that path because they seek honor for themselves, or b...

Daily Devotion: Isaiah 66:1

Isaiah 66:1    "Thus saith the LORD, The heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool: where is the house that ye build unto me? and where is the place of my rest?" "The heaven is my throne..."  We know this is symbolic of God's authority.  Let me use God's Word to describe the things concerning this subject.  "And after these things I heard a great voice of much people in heaven, saying, Alleluia; Salvation, and glory, and honour, and power, unto the Lord our God. And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of mighty thunderings, saying, Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth." (Revelation 19:1,6) Yes, God reigns and rules in heaven. All power belongs to Him both in heaven and in earth. Every knee shall bow and every tongue shall confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of the Father. Though Isaiah was inspired to write in symbolism, these words are not symbolic, but ...

Daily Devotion: Enter With Thanksgiving - Psalm 100:1-5

One of the most beautiful Psalms of Thanksgiving is the 100th Psalm. Please turn to it and read verses one through five. With all my heart I believe we are a people and a nation that has truly been blessed by God. Of all those who “give thanks to Him and praise His name” we should be at the top!  It is not uncommon to compile wish lists at Christmas, and draw up a list of resolutions for the new year. But there is another list we often overlook - a Thanksgiving Day list of all for which we are thankful. What would your list contain? Most likely, a good part would be material possessions. I’m convinced that we would find that we have much more for which to be thankful than just our material possessions.  Like you, I’m sure my list would include the major things - life, health, family, friends, and the nation we live in, despite all its flaws. But even more than that, I’m thankful for my salvation, my Church family, and the mercy that God showers upon us each d...
