Daily Devotion: Psalm 91:1-2

Psalm 91:1-2    "He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.  (2)  I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust."

"I will say of the LORD, He is...."  How would you finish that sentence? As I read that this morning, it hit me similarly to the sentence that Paul wrote in  Philippians 1:21, "For to me to live is..." Paul finished that statement by saying that Christ holds all the meaning of living for him. My answer to finishing today's sentence should be, "I will say of the Lord, He is 'my everything.'"  When the disciples of John Baptist asked Jesus, "Where do you live?" His answer was, "Come and see." My first sentences today may seem like I'm rambling around, but I think there are questions that come into our lives that confront us for answers. Another question asked by Jesus was, "Who do  you say I am?"

Who are you? Where do you live? How does that impact my life? Does it impact my life? What do I have to say about my relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ? How important is my daily walk with Jesus? The Psalmist declared His love and dependence upon the Lord, "He IS my refuge and my fortress. He IS my God. (He has full control over my life.) I place my trust and complete confidence in His wisdom, grace, and power." Yes, indeed... HE IS MY EVERYTHING!

When I can come to that place in my life, then I know I have peace and joy in the righteousness of my Lord. I can have the shade of my Lord covering me in the hottest part of my life as I face the trials and struggles of life. It is like the cool breeze that is felt while sitting under the shade of a tree in summer time. I want my life to reflect my confidence in my Lord. I want my love for Jesus to be the utmost characteristic of my life!

'Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus,
Just to take Him at His Word;
Just to rest upon His promise,
Just to know, "Thus saith the Lord!"

Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him!
How I've proved Him o'er and o'er;
Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus!
Oh, for grace to trust Him more!

Daily Devotion: Colossians 1:25-26

Colossians 1:25-26    “Whereof I am made a minister, according to the dispensation of God which is given to me for you, to fulfil the word of God;  Even   the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints:” In verse twenty-four, Paul has expressed his joy in bearing hardship for the church. It is of this church, the body of Jesus Christ, that he is made a minister. Since Paul used the phrase “made a minister” in verse twenty-three of this same chapter, it seems there is something important that he wishes to convey. The Greek word translated as “made” means “to cause to be.” It was the will of God (Col 1:1) that caused Paul to become a minister. God is always the cause of true ministry. Although our fathers may be ministers, if we become true ministers of the gospel it is  not  because our fathers are ministers. True ministers of the gospel do not take that path because they seek honor for themselves, or b...

Daily Devotion: Exodus 7:6-10

Exodus 7:6-10    "And Moses and Aaron did as the LORD commanded them, so did they. And Moses was fourscore years old, and Aaron fourscore and three years old, when they spake unto Pharaoh. And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying, When Pharaoh shall speak unto you, saying, Shew a miracle for you: then thou shalt say unto Aaron, Take thy rod, and cast it before Pharaoh, and it shall become a serpent. And Moses and Aaron went in unto Pharaoh, and they did so as the LORD had commanded: and Aaron cast down his rod before Pharaoh, and before his servants, and it became a serpent." Moses and Aaron had begun to doubt whether they were right for the job the LORD had given them. Here, it is evident that God granted them a renewal of their faith. Moses and Aaron did as the LORD commanded them. In my opinion, all truly successful outcomes in our lives begin with this. Moses and Aaron were not young men. Moses was eighty years old, and Aaron was eighty-three years old. Still,...

Daily Devotion: Enter With Thanksgiving - Psalm 100:1-5

One of the most beautiful Psalms of Thanksgiving is the 100th Psalm. Please turn to it and read verses one through five. With all my heart I believe we are a people and a nation that has truly been blessed by God. Of all those who “give thanks to Him and praise His name” we should be at the top!  It is not uncommon to compile wish lists at Christmas, and draw up a list of resolutions for the new year. But there is another list we often overlook - a Thanksgiving Day list of all for which we are thankful. What would your list contain? Most likely, a good part would be material possessions. I’m convinced that we would find that we have much more for which to be thankful than just our material possessions.  Like you, I’m sure my list would include the major things - life, health, family, friends, and the nation we live in, despite all its flaws. But even more than that, I’m thankful for my salvation, my Church family, and the mercy that God showers upon us each d...
