Daily Devotion: Psalm 94:22

Psalm 94:22   "But the LORD is my defence; and my God is the rock of my refuge."

Life is filled with struggles from the time of birth until the last breath that we take on this earth. Sometimes we struggle physically whether it be arthritis, bursitis, or one of the other "itis" brothers. Sometimes we struggle emotionally whether it be because of our own weakness or something that another has done to us. Sometimes we struggle spiritually because of sin in our lives. But the truth of the matter is that we all have our struggles with which we must deal. Psalm 94 is an example of the writer expressing himself from the depth of his struggle. Earlier in the Psalm, we see him asking the question, "How long, O Lord?" Then we see him being specific in some of the things that troubled him and when we read them, we can identify with his questions. "LORD, how long shall the wicked, how long shall the wicked triumph? How long shall they utter and speak hard things? and all the workers of iniquity boast themselves? They break in pieces thy people, O LORD, and afflict thine heritage. They slay the widow and the stranger, and murder the fatherless." (Psalm 94:3-6)

How do we deal with our troubles in life? We are tempted to lash out at others, but for me, that has never worked very well. The Psalmist was tempted to lash out, but he begins this Psalm with the true statement that God is the one who will get vengeance. He reminds himself that God sees and knows all things and there is nothing that escapes him - whether it be good or bad. So, how did he deal with his struggle of wanting to get revenge? He went to the Rock of his salvation and poured out his heart unto the Lord God Almighty. I leave us with this thought this morning. It's very much straight to the point: "But the LORD is my defence; and my God is the rock of my refuge."

I Go to the Rock of My Salvation by Aaron Jeoffrey

Where do I go When there's no body else to turn to
Who do I talk to When no one wants to listen
Who do I lean on When there's no foundation stable
I go to the Rock I know He's able I go to the Rock

CHORUS:
I go to the Rock of my Salvation
I go to the Stone that the builders rejected
I run to the mountain and the mountain stands by me
When the earth all around me is sinking sand
On Christ, the solid rock I stand
When I need a shelter, When I need a friend,
I go to the Rock

On Christ the solid rock I stand
All other ground is sinking sand
All other ground is sinking sand

Daily Devotion: Colossians 1:25-26

Colossians 1:25-26    “Whereof I am made a minister, according to the dispensation of God which is given to me for you, to fulfil the word of God;  Even   the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints:” In verse twenty-four, Paul has expressed his joy in bearing hardship for the church. It is of this church, the body of Jesus Christ, that he is made a minister. Since Paul used the phrase “made a minister” in verse twenty-three of this same chapter, it seems there is something important that he wishes to convey. The Greek word translated as “made” means “to cause to be.” It was the will of God (Col 1:1) that caused Paul to become a minister. God is always the cause of true ministry. Although our fathers may be ministers, if we become true ministers of the gospel it is  not  because our fathers are ministers. True ministers of the gospel do not take that path because they seek honor for themselves, or b...

Daily Devotion: Exodus 7:6-10

Exodus 7:6-10    "And Moses and Aaron did as the LORD commanded them, so did they. And Moses was fourscore years old, and Aaron fourscore and three years old, when they spake unto Pharaoh. And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying, When Pharaoh shall speak unto you, saying, Shew a miracle for you: then thou shalt say unto Aaron, Take thy rod, and cast it before Pharaoh, and it shall become a serpent. And Moses and Aaron went in unto Pharaoh, and they did so as the LORD had commanded: and Aaron cast down his rod before Pharaoh, and before his servants, and it became a serpent." Moses and Aaron had begun to doubt whether they were right for the job the LORD had given them. Here, it is evident that God granted them a renewal of their faith. Moses and Aaron did as the LORD commanded them. In my opinion, all truly successful outcomes in our lives begin with this. Moses and Aaron were not young men. Moses was eighty years old, and Aaron was eighty-three years old. Still,...

Daily Devotion: Enter With Thanksgiving - Psalm 100:1-5

One of the most beautiful Psalms of Thanksgiving is the 100th Psalm. Please turn to it and read verses one through five. With all my heart I believe we are a people and a nation that has truly been blessed by God. Of all those who “give thanks to Him and praise His name” we should be at the top!  It is not uncommon to compile wish lists at Christmas, and draw up a list of resolutions for the new year. But there is another list we often overlook - a Thanksgiving Day list of all for which we are thankful. What would your list contain? Most likely, a good part would be material possessions. I’m convinced that we would find that we have much more for which to be thankful than just our material possessions.  Like you, I’m sure my list would include the major things - life, health, family, friends, and the nation we live in, despite all its flaws. But even more than that, I’m thankful for my salvation, my Church family, and the mercy that God showers upon us each d...
