Daily Devotion: Psalm 95:1

Psalm 95:1    "O come, let us sing unto the LORD: let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation."

"O Come, let us sing unto the LORD." I'll jump ahead a few Psalms to include with these words "I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the LORD." (Psalm 122:1)  I love to try to sing. I'm so thankful that God placed music within us when He created man. David loved music. I can picture him on the hillsides, looking out across God's creation, and the music flowing from his heart as he would begin to praise the Lord. I think of the manner in which music would calm the soul of King Saul when he would go into one of his raging fits. There have been times in my life when I wanted complete silence. I needed that time to be still before the Lord and allow my mind to think upon good things. There are other times when I want to hear the radio playing while I'm driving down the highway. I enjoy "most types" of music. I love the old hymns of grace that proclaim the goodness of God. I love Southern Gospel music. I enjoy some types of music that does not come under the heading of Gospel such as bluegrass, the "Golden Oldies", and smooth jazz. There are times when I just listen to music without any words at all.

In case you haven't noticed by now, I love music. I enjoyed singing in the quartet. God placed that in my life at a time when I needed that fellowship. I met many wonderful people that I would have otherwise never known. I loved it when a congregation would say, "Will y'all come sing at our Church?" I enjoyed the practices. Debby and I have gone to some nursing homes to sing. It's amazing to me that we see people who may not audibly speak to us, but they join right along with us when we start singing. We go twice a month to a Senior Living Home and give a short devotional and then we join our voices to "sing unto the LORD" and "make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation."  God is so good! Yes! He is!

I Will Sing of My Redeemer by Philip Bliss

I will sing of my Redeemer
and his heavenly love for me;
he from death to life has brought me,
Son of God, with him to be.

Sing, O sing of my Redeemer!
With his blood he purchased me;
on the cross he sealed my pardon,
paid the debt, and made me free.

Daily Devotion: Colossians 1:25-26

Colossians 1:25-26    “Whereof I am made a minister, according to the dispensation of God which is given to me for you, to fulfil the word of God;  Even   the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints:” In verse twenty-four, Paul has expressed his joy in bearing hardship for the church. It is of this church, the body of Jesus Christ, that he is made a minister. Since Paul used the phrase “made a minister” in verse twenty-three of this same chapter, it seems there is something important that he wishes to convey. The Greek word translated as “made” means “to cause to be.” It was the will of God (Col 1:1) that caused Paul to become a minister. God is always the cause of true ministry. Although our fathers may be ministers, if we become true ministers of the gospel it is  not  because our fathers are ministers. True ministers of the gospel do not take that path because they seek honor for themselves, or b...

Daily Devotion: Exodus 7:6-10

Exodus 7:6-10    "And Moses and Aaron did as the LORD commanded them, so did they. And Moses was fourscore years old, and Aaron fourscore and three years old, when they spake unto Pharaoh. And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying, When Pharaoh shall speak unto you, saying, Shew a miracle for you: then thou shalt say unto Aaron, Take thy rod, and cast it before Pharaoh, and it shall become a serpent. And Moses and Aaron went in unto Pharaoh, and they did so as the LORD had commanded: and Aaron cast down his rod before Pharaoh, and before his servants, and it became a serpent." Moses and Aaron had begun to doubt whether they were right for the job the LORD had given them. Here, it is evident that God granted them a renewal of their faith. Moses and Aaron did as the LORD commanded them. In my opinion, all truly successful outcomes in our lives begin with this. Moses and Aaron were not young men. Moses was eighty years old, and Aaron was eighty-three years old. Still,...

Daily Devotion: Enter With Thanksgiving - Psalm 100:1-5

One of the most beautiful Psalms of Thanksgiving is the 100th Psalm. Please turn to it and read verses one through five. With all my heart I believe we are a people and a nation that has truly been blessed by God. Of all those who “give thanks to Him and praise His name” we should be at the top!  It is not uncommon to compile wish lists at Christmas, and draw up a list of resolutions for the new year. But there is another list we often overlook - a Thanksgiving Day list of all for which we are thankful. What would your list contain? Most likely, a good part would be material possessions. I’m convinced that we would find that we have much more for which to be thankful than just our material possessions.  Like you, I’m sure my list would include the major things - life, health, family, friends, and the nation we live in, despite all its flaws. But even more than that, I’m thankful for my salvation, my Church family, and the mercy that God showers upon us each d...
