Psalm 95:1 "O come, let us sing unto the LORD: let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation."
"O Come, let us sing unto the LORD." I'll jump ahead a few Psalms to
include with these words "I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go
into the house of the LORD." (Psalm 122:1) I love to try to sing.
I'm so thankful that God placed music within us when He created man. David
loved music. I can picture him on the hillsides, looking out across God's
creation, and the music flowing from his heart as he would begin to praise the
Lord. I think of the manner in which music would calm the soul of King Saul
when he would go into one of his raging fits. There have been times in my life
when I wanted complete silence. I needed that time to be still before the Lord
and allow my mind to think upon good things. There are other times when I want
to hear the radio playing while I'm driving down the highway. I enjoy
"most types" of music. I love the old hymns of grace that proclaim
the goodness of God. I love Southern Gospel music. I enjoy some types of music
that does not come under the heading of Gospel such as bluegrass, the
"Golden Oldies", and smooth jazz. There are times when I just listen
to music without any words at all.
In case you haven't noticed by now, I love music. I enjoyed singing in the
quartet. God placed that in my life at a time when I needed that fellowship. I
met many wonderful people that I would have otherwise never known. I loved it
when a congregation would say, "Will y'all come sing at our Church?"
I enjoyed the practices. Debby and I have gone to some nursing homes to sing.
It's amazing to me that we see people who may not audibly speak to us, but they
join right along with us when we start singing. We go twice a month to a Senior
Living Home and give a short devotional and then we join our voices to
"sing unto the LORD" and "make a joyful noise to the rock of our
salvation." God is so good! Yes! He is!
I Will Sing of My Redeemer by Philip Bliss
I will sing of my Redeemer
and his heavenly love for me;
he from death to life has brought me,
Son of God, with him to be.
Sing, O sing of my Redeemer!
With his blood he purchased me;
on the cross he sealed my pardon,
paid the debt, and made me free.
