Dily Devotion: Psalm 90:10-12

Psalm 90:10-12    "The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away.  (11)  Who knoweth the power of thine anger? even according to thy fear, so is thy wrath.  (12)  So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom."

"Who knoweth the power of thine anger? even according to thy fear, so is thy wrath." As I pondered this question this morning, I'm thankful that I do not know the "power of thine anger." I'm thankful that, by the grace of God, I will never know the power of His anger and wrath. We may think that we are experiencing the anger of God, but we saw back in Psalm 85:2-3, "Thou hast forgiven the iniquity of thy people, thou hast covered all their sin. Selah. Thou hast taken away all thy wrath: thou hast turned thyself from the fierceness of thine anger." Yes, the anger of His wrath was turned away from us and was cast upon Jesus Christ, the blessed Son of God. We saw in Romans 5 that we shall be saved from wrath by the blood of Jesus Christ. Also, Paul speaks of that beautiful truth in his first letter to the Thessalonians. He commended them on the manner in which "... ye turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God; And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come." (1 Thessalonians 1:9-10) Yes, Jesus "delivered us from the wrath to come." How did He deliver us? He allowed Himself to be nailed to that old cross on Calvary's Hill. He endured the suffering and shame and laid down His life for us. He took that wrath upon Himself to deliver us from having to experience it. I praise His Holy Name!

Now the Psalmist reminds us that our lives should reflect the gratitude in our hearts toward Jesus. "So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom." How does my life reflect the application of the glorious truth of deliverance? It seems that sometimes we, as God's people, tend to have the attitude that we are going to live forever in this old world. Sometimes we hear the phrase spoken, "His days are numbered." In fact, all of our days are numbered. Paul commended the Thessalonians for waiting "for His Son from heaven." Though no man knows the day in which Jesus will come for His bride, we can be assured that that day is coming. We are to apply our hearts unto wisdom in seeking to glorify the Holy Name of our Blessed Redeemer, Jesus the Christ of God. He loved us enough to die for us. Should we not love Him enough to live for Him?

The Goodness of God by Jenn Johnson

… I love You, Lord
Oh, Your mercy never failed me
And all my days, I've been held in Your hands
From the moment that I wake up
Until I lay my head
Oh, I will sing of the goodness of God

… All my life You have been faithful
All my life You have been so, so good
With every breath that I am able
Oh, I will sing of the goodness of God

Daily Devotion: Colossians 1:25-26

Colossians 1:25-26    “Whereof I am made a minister, according to the dispensation of God which is given to me for you, to fulfil the word of God;  Even   the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints:” In verse twenty-four, Paul has expressed his joy in bearing hardship for the church. It is of this church, the body of Jesus Christ, that he is made a minister. Since Paul used the phrase “made a minister” in verse twenty-three of this same chapter, it seems there is something important that he wishes to convey. The Greek word translated as “made” means “to cause to be.” It was the will of God (Col 1:1) that caused Paul to become a minister. God is always the cause of true ministry. Although our fathers may be ministers, if we become true ministers of the gospel it is  not  because our fathers are ministers. True ministers of the gospel do not take that path because they seek honor for themselves, or b...

Daily Devotion: Exodus 7:6-10

Exodus 7:6-10    "And Moses and Aaron did as the LORD commanded them, so did they. And Moses was fourscore years old, and Aaron fourscore and three years old, when they spake unto Pharaoh. And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying, When Pharaoh shall speak unto you, saying, Shew a miracle for you: then thou shalt say unto Aaron, Take thy rod, and cast it before Pharaoh, and it shall become a serpent. And Moses and Aaron went in unto Pharaoh, and they did so as the LORD had commanded: and Aaron cast down his rod before Pharaoh, and before his servants, and it became a serpent." Moses and Aaron had begun to doubt whether they were right for the job the LORD had given them. Here, it is evident that God granted them a renewal of their faith. Moses and Aaron did as the LORD commanded them. In my opinion, all truly successful outcomes in our lives begin with this. Moses and Aaron were not young men. Moses was eighty years old, and Aaron was eighty-three years old. Still,...

Daily Devotion: Enter With Thanksgiving - Psalm 100:1-5

One of the most beautiful Psalms of Thanksgiving is the 100th Psalm. Please turn to it and read verses one through five. With all my heart I believe we are a people and a nation that has truly been blessed by God. Of all those who “give thanks to Him and praise His name” we should be at the top!  It is not uncommon to compile wish lists at Christmas, and draw up a list of resolutions for the new year. But there is another list we often overlook - a Thanksgiving Day list of all for which we are thankful. What would your list contain? Most likely, a good part would be material possessions. I’m convinced that we would find that we have much more for which to be thankful than just our material possessions.  Like you, I’m sure my list would include the major things - life, health, family, friends, and the nation we live in, despite all its flaws. But even more than that, I’m thankful for my salvation, my Church family, and the mercy that God showers upon us each d...
