Daily Devotion: Luke 22:19-20

Luke 22:19-20     "And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me.  (20)  Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you."

The elements of the Lord's Supper are very important to us. I will stop short of saying that the elements are sacred, but that which they represent is very sacred. Therefore, even the elements of Communion should be handled with all care and diligence. When we participate in Communion, we are acknowledging that the bread and wine mean something very special to us. Jesus gave us the truth concerning them that we hold dear in our hearts.

The bread represents the body of Jesus that was broken for us. Jesus spoke to us through the Prophet Isaiah, "I gave my back to the smiters, and my cheeks to them that plucked off the hair: I hid not my face from shame and spitting." Though there was no bone broken in His body, the flesh was torn to the point that the people were astonished who looked upon Him. Their stomachs were turned. His face was battered and bruised. Isaiah 53 speaks of His wounds, bruises, and stripes. We should have deep respect and love in our hearts when we hold the piece of broken unleavened bread in our hands.

The wine represents the shed blood of Jesus Christ. We are told that without the shedding of blood, there is no remission of sins. The blood of Jesus was given as the price that was paid for the forgiveness of our sins. The wine represents the very promise of life - eternal life with God our Heavenly Father. Jesus laid down His life that you and I would have eternal life. So yes, when we should have utmost respect and love in our hearts when we hold that small amount of wine in our hands. It represents the most precious thing that has ever been on this earth.

We are in the time of this particular week when Jesus was observing the Passover. The very Lamb of God was partaking of the feast that was given thousands of years before; yet, it had always been intended for that one final time when God's Lamb would be sacrificed for you and me.

How Great Thou Art (verse 3)

And when I think That God, His Son not sparing,
Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in -
That on the cross, My burden gladly bearing,
He bled and died To take away my sin!

Chorus
Then sings my soul, My Savior God, to Thee;
How great Thou art, How great Thou art!
Then sings my soul, My Savior God, to Thee;
How great Thou art, How great Thou art!

Daily Devotion: Colossians 1:25-26

Colossians 1:25-26    “Whereof I am made a minister, according to the dispensation of God which is given to me for you, to fulfil the word of God;  Even   the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints:” In verse twenty-four, Paul has expressed his joy in bearing hardship for the church. It is of this church, the body of Jesus Christ, that he is made a minister. Since Paul used the phrase “made a minister” in verse twenty-three of this same chapter, it seems there is something important that he wishes to convey. The Greek word translated as “made” means “to cause to be.” It was the will of God (Col 1:1) that caused Paul to become a minister. God is always the cause of true ministry. Although our fathers may be ministers, if we become true ministers of the gospel it is  not  because our fathers are ministers. True ministers of the gospel do not take that path because they seek honor for themselves, or b...

Daily Devotion: Exodus 7:6-10

Exodus 7:6-10    "And Moses and Aaron did as the LORD commanded them, so did they. And Moses was fourscore years old, and Aaron fourscore and three years old, when they spake unto Pharaoh. And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying, When Pharaoh shall speak unto you, saying, Shew a miracle for you: then thou shalt say unto Aaron, Take thy rod, and cast it before Pharaoh, and it shall become a serpent. And Moses and Aaron went in unto Pharaoh, and they did so as the LORD had commanded: and Aaron cast down his rod before Pharaoh, and before his servants, and it became a serpent." Moses and Aaron had begun to doubt whether they were right for the job the LORD had given them. Here, it is evident that God granted them a renewal of their faith. Moses and Aaron did as the LORD commanded them. In my opinion, all truly successful outcomes in our lives begin with this. Moses and Aaron were not young men. Moses was eighty years old, and Aaron was eighty-three years old. Still,...

Daily Devotion: Enter With Thanksgiving - Psalm 100:1-5

One of the most beautiful Psalms of Thanksgiving is the 100th Psalm. Please turn to it and read verses one through five. With all my heart I believe we are a people and a nation that has truly been blessed by God. Of all those who “give thanks to Him and praise His name” we should be at the top!  It is not uncommon to compile wish lists at Christmas, and draw up a list of resolutions for the new year. But there is another list we often overlook - a Thanksgiving Day list of all for which we are thankful. What would your list contain? Most likely, a good part would be material possessions. I’m convinced that we would find that we have much more for which to be thankful than just our material possessions.  Like you, I’m sure my list would include the major things - life, health, family, friends, and the nation we live in, despite all its flaws. But even more than that, I’m thankful for my salvation, my Church family, and the mercy that God showers upon us each d...
