Psalm 105:1-5 "O give thanks unto the LORD; call upon his name: make known his deeds among the people. (2) Sing unto him, sing psalms unto him: talk ye of all his wondrous works. (3) Glory ye in his holy name: let the heart of them rejoice that seek the LORD. (4) Seek the LORD, and his strength: seek his face evermore. (5) Remember his marvellous works that he hath done; his wonders, and the judgments of his mouth;"
Memory is a blessed gift from God. This entire Psalm is written concerning
remembrance of God's mighty works and His mercy. The Lord inspired the writer
to go back to the beginning of the nation of Israel when God called Abram out
of the land of Ur of the Chaldees. He writes concerning the travels of the
people, Joseph in Egypt, the plagues that were used to bring the people out,
and many other wonderful things that God did for His people. "Remember his
marvellous works that he hath done; his wonders, and the judgments of his
mouth."
I write about memory because it is an important element of gratitude. We fail
to be grateful when we fail to remember what God has done for us. Sometimes we
do not want to remember those times when we struggled, but Paul wrote to the
Romans concerning the progression that is beneficial in our everyday walk with
the Lord. "And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing
that tribulation worketh patience; And patience, experience; and experience,
hope: And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in
our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us." (Romans 5:3-5)
Yes, those experiences work hope into our hearts and minds. They are
difficult at the time, but we look back in remembering them to see the
blessings of God even during those tough times. These times require effort on
our part. We are told to give thanks, make known, sing, talk, glory in His Holy
Name, rejoice, seek, and remember. At first, we may need to exercise these
elements, but if we continue to do them, they will become a part of our lives
that is very important. Help us Lord to remember!
When peace like a river, attendeth my way
When sorrows like sea billows roll
Whatever my lot, thou hast taught me to say
It is well, it is well, with my soul
It is well
With my soul
It is well, it is well with my soul
