Daily Devotion: Psalm 110:1-3

Psalm 110:1-3  A Psalm of David. "The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.  (2)  The LORD shall send the rod of thy strength out of Zion: rule thou in the midst of thine enemies.  (3)  Thy people shall be willing in the day of thy power, in the beauties of holiness from the womb of the morning: thou hast the dew of thy youth."

I pray the Lord will allow me to write what I am seeing in these verses. And I pray the Lord will allow us all to see the glory and beauty that is expressed in these verses.

"The LORD said unto my Lord." You can go to Acts chapter 2 and read Peter's message on the day of Pentecost to see the explanation for these words. I will simply say that this is showing the words that were spoken unto by our Heavenly Father to Jesus, our Lord and Saviour. There are words that show this conversation was about the work of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit in the salvation of His people. The Father said, "Sit thou at my right hand."That indicates that the work of redemption by Jesus Christ had been accomplished. We read the literal words of Jesus in John 19:30 when He said, "It is finished." When Jesus ascended back into heaven, He is now seated at the right hand of the Father making intercession for you and me. How long will Jesus be seated at the right hand of the Father? "... until I make thine enemies thy footstool."

Who is this talking about? Let's look at the Word of God to find that answer. "Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.  (10)  For if, when WE WERE ENEMIES (emphasis mine), we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life." (Romans 5:9-10) We were enemies of God until the blood of Jesus was applied by the Holy Spirit in the work of regeneration. At that time, we became His footstool as the head of the serpent was bruised in us. The Lord sent "the rod of (His) strength" to accomplish the work of salvation by laying down His life, His lifeless body being buried, and then being raised from the dead. Jesus said in the fullness of His power, "I lay down my life and I will take my life up again." Ephesians chapter 2 tells us that we have been raised with Christ. This work is effectual in us by the power of Almighty God. We were made willing when the Holy Spirit called us from death to life by His sovereign power. We now have the beauty of holiness in us because Jesus lives in us by His Holy Spirit. Praise God, we are His people!

Stand up! stand up for Jesus!
  Stand in His strength alone;
The arm of flesh will fail you;
  Ye dare not trust your own.
Put on the Gospel armor,
  And, watching unto prayer,
Where duty calls, or danger,
  Be never wanting there.

Daily Devotion: Enter With Thanksgiving - Psalm 100:1-5

One of the most beautiful Psalms of Thanksgiving is the 100th Psalm. Please turn to it and read verses one through five. With all my heart I believe we are a people and a nation that has truly been blessed by God. Of all those who “give thanks to Him and praise His name” we should be at the top!  It is not uncommon to compile wish lists at Christmas, and draw up a list of resolutions for the new year. But there is another list we often overlook - a Thanksgiving Day list of all for which we are thankful. What would your list contain? Most likely, a good part would be material possessions. I’m convinced that we would find that we have much more for which to be thankful than just our material possessions.  Like you, I’m sure my list would include the major things - life, health, family, friends, and the nation we live in, despite all its flaws. But even more than that, I’m thankful for my salvation, my Church family, and the mercy that God showers upon us each d...

Daily Devotion: The Peace Of Christ - John 14:27

Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. – John 14:27 As I sit and enjoy the Lord's creation and I feel the cool breeze blow across my skin, I am reminded of the peace that we find when we stop to appreciate the works of God. While we cannot necessarily count on another tomorrow in this world, all of God’s children have the assurance of something purer, something brighter, in the world to come. This brings peace when everything seems chaotic and difficult here and now. Jesus Christ was and remains a complex Person. Not only do we have to wrestle with His dual nature, we must face the depth of His teachings. Many of the Lord’s teachings are easy to grasp even if they are hard to apply. (Have you tried loving your enemies lately?) However, some of the Messiah’s sayings make us think very hard indeed. Isaiah 9:6 famously reveals that the virgin born Son of God would be the Prin...
