Daily Devotion: Psalm 118:10-14

Psalm 118:10-14    "All nations compassed me about: but in the name of the LORD will I destroy them.  (11)  They compassed me about; yea, they compassed me about: but in the name of the LORD I will destroy them.  (12)  They compassed me about like bees; they are quenched as the fire of thorns: for in the name of the LORD I will destroy them.  (13)  Thou hast thrust sore at me that I might fall: but the LORD helped me.  (14)  The LORD is my strength and song, and is become my salvation."

I want my words this morning to be directed directly into our hearts, minds, and circumstances. Have you ever felt like the world was against you? Or, have you ever felt like every way you turned was a dead end and there was no way out? Have you ever felt all alone and then your mind began having thoughts that took you into an even darker place? Have you ever felt like nothing was going right and your life was in a downward spiral? Or maybe, you let yourself watch the news so much that you felt like you were the only one that was looking at the situations in a correct manner. If you have never felt any of these things, then please pray for the rest of us.

The writer of this Psalm apparently felt these things as he was writing this Psalm. "All nations compassed me about."  I was completely surrounded by those elements of the world that were against me. "They compassed me about like bees." I felt like I was being swarmed by yellow jackets. They were coming from every direction and it was all at the same time.  The enemy tried to make me fall... "BUT THE Lord helped me." Satan tries his best to get us into a place where all hope seems to be gone, but in these five verses, the writer says, "but in the name of the Lord." Yes, there is hope in the name of the Lord! The enemies, whether real or imagined, try to make me fall - "But there is hope in the name of the Lord." When I can hold that in my heart and mind, then I can speak verse 14 with great confidence. "The LORD is my strength and song, and is become my salvation."

1 My hope is built on nothing less
than Jesus' blood and righteousness;
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
but wholly lean on Jesus' name.

2 When darkness veils his lovely face,
I rest on his unchanging grace;
in every high and stormy gale,
my anchor holds within the veil.

Refrain:
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand:
all other ground is sinking sand;
all other ground is sinking sand.

Daily Devotion: Enter With Thanksgiving - Psalm 100:1-5

One of the most beautiful Psalms of Thanksgiving is the 100th Psalm. Please turn to it and read verses one through five. With all my heart I believe we are a people and a nation that has truly been blessed by God. Of all those who “give thanks to Him and praise His name” we should be at the top!  It is not uncommon to compile wish lists at Christmas, and draw up a list of resolutions for the new year. But there is another list we often overlook - a Thanksgiving Day list of all for which we are thankful. What would your list contain? Most likely, a good part would be material possessions. I’m convinced that we would find that we have much more for which to be thankful than just our material possessions.  Like you, I’m sure my list would include the major things - life, health, family, friends, and the nation we live in, despite all its flaws. But even more than that, I’m thankful for my salvation, my Church family, and the mercy that God showers upon us each d...

Daily Devotion: Exodus 7:6-10

Exodus 7:6-10    "And Moses and Aaron did as the LORD commanded them, so did they. And Moses was fourscore years old, and Aaron fourscore and three years old, when they spake unto Pharaoh. And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying, When Pharaoh shall speak unto you, saying, Shew a miracle for you: then thou shalt say unto Aaron, Take thy rod, and cast it before Pharaoh, and it shall become a serpent. And Moses and Aaron went in unto Pharaoh, and they did so as the LORD had commanded: and Aaron cast down his rod before Pharaoh, and before his servants, and it became a serpent." Moses and Aaron had begun to doubt whether they were right for the job the LORD had given them. Here, it is evident that God granted them a renewal of their faith. Moses and Aaron did as the LORD commanded them. In my opinion, all truly successful outcomes in our lives begin with this. Moses and Aaron were not young men. Moses was eighty years old, and Aaron was eighty-three years old. Still,...
