Daily Devotion: Psalm 118:24

Psalm 118:24    "This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it."

In Genesis chapter 1, we read that God said on the first day, "Let there be light." That was the day the Lord made. We read of many days in the Word of God when He showed Himself strong on behalf of His people. There was the day God sent rain upon the earth. There was a day when God parted the waters of the Red Sea. There was a day when He caused the sun to stand still for the people to fight their battle in the daylight. Another day, He caused the sun to go backwards. There was a day when His only begotten Son was born of a virgin. All those days are very important to us as we seek to bolster our faith through the Word of God.

But there was a very special day that God made for us. "The stone which the builders refused is become the head stone of the corner. This is the LORD'S doing; it is marvellous in our eyes. This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it." (Psalm 118:22-24) Yes on that day the builders rejected Jesus Christ and He became our cornerstone by laying down His life on the cross. This particular Psalm was sung during the time of Passover. It is probable that Jesus and the disciples sang this song as they went out to the Garden of Gethsemane. Jesus, knowing what was about to happen, sang... "This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it."

We sing the song (to a different tune), "This is the day. This is the day that the Lord hath made." We quote this verse every morning to start our day. I hope it never becomes just words to me. Every day is a special day to us because our Lord Jesus submitted to the will of the Father by the shedding of His blood. We were reminded back in the 90th Psalm, "... teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom." We are to number them and also be reminded each day that today is a gift from God.  May we always see each day as an opportunity to show God's grace and glory in our lives.

There is coming a day,
When no heart aches shall come,
No more clouds in the sky,
No more tears to dim the eye,
All is peace forever more,
On that happy golden shore,
What a day, glorious day that will be.

What a day that will be,
When my Jesus I shall see,
And I look upon His face,
The One who saved me by His grace;
When He takes me by the hand,
And leads me through the Promised Land,
What a day, glorious day that will be.

Daily Devotion: Enter With Thanksgiving - Psalm 100:1-5

One of the most beautiful Psalms of Thanksgiving is the 100th Psalm. Please turn to it and read verses one through five. With all my heart I believe we are a people and a nation that has truly been blessed by God. Of all those who “give thanks to Him and praise His name” we should be at the top!  It is not uncommon to compile wish lists at Christmas, and draw up a list of resolutions for the new year. But there is another list we often overlook - a Thanksgiving Day list of all for which we are thankful. What would your list contain? Most likely, a good part would be material possessions. I’m convinced that we would find that we have much more for which to be thankful than just our material possessions.  Like you, I’m sure my list would include the major things - life, health, family, friends, and the nation we live in, despite all its flaws. But even more than that, I’m thankful for my salvation, my Church family, and the mercy that God showers upon us each d...

Daily Devotion: Exodus 7:6-10

Exodus 7:6-10    "And Moses and Aaron did as the LORD commanded them, so did they. And Moses was fourscore years old, and Aaron fourscore and three years old, when they spake unto Pharaoh. And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying, When Pharaoh shall speak unto you, saying, Shew a miracle for you: then thou shalt say unto Aaron, Take thy rod, and cast it before Pharaoh, and it shall become a serpent. And Moses and Aaron went in unto Pharaoh, and they did so as the LORD had commanded: and Aaron cast down his rod before Pharaoh, and before his servants, and it became a serpent." Moses and Aaron had begun to doubt whether they were right for the job the LORD had given them. Here, it is evident that God granted them a renewal of their faith. Moses and Aaron did as the LORD commanded them. In my opinion, all truly successful outcomes in our lives begin with this. Moses and Aaron were not young men. Moses was eighty years old, and Aaron was eighty-three years old. Still,...
