Psalm 119:103-104 "How sweet are thy words unto my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth! (104) Through thy precepts I get understanding: therefore I hate every false way."
It is no coincidence that this Psalm is the longest chapter in the Bible. The
entirety of the Psalm is given to the subject of the Word of God. I say it is
no coincidence because of the importance of constant prayer, reading, studying,
and meditating upon the Word of God. We have seen that we gain understanding
and our hope gains strength as we give ourselves to the Word of God. It has
been my experience on many occasions that I would read something and not get
the immediate thought of the passage. It is at that time that I begin to ask
the Lord to open my understanding. It isn't always an immediate thought that
comes to me. It just might be at that time that the Lord is saying, "Let's
just talk a while." Reading and enquiring about the words written in the
Bible is a great avenue by which we can and should spend more time talking to
the Lord and listening for Him to talk with us. But then, the time is filled
with sweet fellowship with the Lord as He begins to open our hearts and minds
to His Word. It is better than the taste in our mouths as we would take a bite
of sweet chocolate. The Lord willing, we will see tomorrow how the Word of God
illuminates our daily walk in life, but for now let's just think about the
wonder of knowing the Creator of this Universe and all that is in it is willing
to spend time with us each day. Today's devotion is short, but I feel it is so
very important for us to just take time to realize that we do ourselves a great
injustice when we neglect reading our Bibles each day.
Holy Spirit, breathe on me,
Until my heart is clean;
Let sunshine fill its inmost part,
With not a cloud between.
Chorus:
Breathe on me, breathe on me,
Holy Spirit, breathe on me;
Take Thou my heart, cleanse every part,
Holy Spirit, breathe on me.
Holy Spirit, breathe on me,
My stubborn will subdue;
Teach me in words of living flame
What Christ would have me do.
