Daily Devotion: Psalm 119:81-83

Psalm 119:81-83    "My soul fainteth for thy salvation: but I hope in thy word.  (82)  Mine eyes fail for thy word, saying, When wilt thou comfort me?  (83)  For I am become like a bottle in the smoke; yet do I not forget thy statutes."

The earth is about 71% water while the human body is 50 - 70% water and blood. Thirst is a very real danger. We see what happens when the earth is in a drought. A person who does not drink enough water is in dire danger when he becomes dehydrated. There are many things on the market that are fluids and promise to satisfy your thirst, but in reality, they only magnify the thirst. Even Coca-Cola (the real thing) leaves you wanting more instead of giving true satisfaction. Only water can really take away the thirst of the body.

That is in the physical realm and yet the spiritual realm is just as true. Our spiritual beings need the water of the Word of God. We become dry and dehydrated spiritually when we fail to consume the Word of God on a regular basis. I'm not saying that everything will be hunky-dory if you read the Word of God every day. I'm not saying that you will never have problems. Even Jesus said, "In the world, you will have tribulation." That's a promise just as true as "By grace ye are saved." BUT... the water of the Word assures us that even in our darkest times of life, the grace of God is sufficient for all our needs. The Water of the Word assures us that God's grace is super abounding over and above our sin. The Water of God's Word assures us that even when we feel dried up, God has not forsaken us. Even as we are learning patience, God is already in our tomorrow and knows the end from the beginning.  We might ask, "When wilt thou comfort (us)", but we can be assured that His comfort is already in place. Thank you, Jesus!

My Faith Has Found a Resting Place by E.E. Hewitt

My faith has found a resting place,
Not in device or creed;
I trust the ever living One,
His wounds for me shall plead.

chorus:
I need no other argument,
I need no other plea,
It is enough that Jesus died,
And that He died for me.

Enough for me that Jesus saves,
This ends my fear and doubt;
A sinful soul I come to Him,
He'll never cast me out. (chorus)

My heart is leaning on the Word,
The living Word of God,
Salvation by my Savior's Name,
Salvation through His blood. (chorus)

Daily Devotion: Enter With Thanksgiving - Psalm 100:1-5

One of the most beautiful Psalms of Thanksgiving is the 100th Psalm. Please turn to it and read verses one through five. With all my heart I believe we are a people and a nation that has truly been blessed by God. Of all those who “give thanks to Him and praise His name” we should be at the top!  It is not uncommon to compile wish lists at Christmas, and draw up a list of resolutions for the new year. But there is another list we often overlook - a Thanksgiving Day list of all for which we are thankful. What would your list contain? Most likely, a good part would be material possessions. I’m convinced that we would find that we have much more for which to be thankful than just our material possessions.  Like you, I’m sure my list would include the major things - life, health, family, friends, and the nation we live in, despite all its flaws. But even more than that, I’m thankful for my salvation, my Church family, and the mercy that God showers upon us each d...

Daily Devotion: Exodus 7:6-10

Exodus 7:6-10    "And Moses and Aaron did as the LORD commanded them, so did they. And Moses was fourscore years old, and Aaron fourscore and three years old, when they spake unto Pharaoh. And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying, When Pharaoh shall speak unto you, saying, Shew a miracle for you: then thou shalt say unto Aaron, Take thy rod, and cast it before Pharaoh, and it shall become a serpent. And Moses and Aaron went in unto Pharaoh, and they did so as the LORD had commanded: and Aaron cast down his rod before Pharaoh, and before his servants, and it became a serpent." Moses and Aaron had begun to doubt whether they were right for the job the LORD had given them. Here, it is evident that God granted them a renewal of their faith. Moses and Aaron did as the LORD commanded them. In my opinion, all truly successful outcomes in our lives begin with this. Moses and Aaron were not young men. Moses was eighty years old, and Aaron was eighty-three years old. Still,...
