Daily Devotion: Psalm 119:137-138

Psalm 119:137-138    "Righteous art thou, O LORD, and upright are thy judgments.  (138)  Thy testimonies that thou hast commanded are righteous and very faithful."

"I know the Bible says..... But I believe....." How many times have we ever heard that? Quite honestly, the truth of the matter is that God's Word has the final authority and trumps what I believe. If my belief does not align with God's Word, then I am wrong. That's the absolute truth. "Righteous art thou, O LORD, and upright are thy judgments." How much more plainly can it be spoken? God is right in all matters of life and His Word is always correct. If I think there are some things in the Bible that are in disagreement, then the error is in my understanding, not God's Word. If I do not open my Bible with the understanding that God has great truths to reveal to me, then I may as well look at it as simply a history book. Even at that, people seem so very surprised that archeologists are "proving" the Bible to be correct. I saw something the other day where scientists have determined that the earth is older than bones. Wow! How surprising is that! I've known that since I was able to read Genesis chapter 1. I don't mean to be cynical, but the Lord brought me to a sweet peace a long time ago in knowing that His Word is true and faithful.

"Thy word is very pure: therefore thy servant loveth it. I am small and despised: yet do not I forget thy precepts." (Psalm 119:140-141) There is strength to be received when we embrace the great truths of God's Word. Let me share one of my favorite passages in the Psalms.  "What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee. When I cry unto thee, then shall mine enemies turn back: this I know; for God is for me." (Psalm 56:3,9) I am strengthened even in my fear because of the blessed truth that "God is for me." In every dealing of God in my life, I know He is doing it for my good. When He corrects me, it is for my good. When He opens doors for which I have prayed, it is for my good. When He closes doors for which I have prayed, it is for my good. He stands with open arms telling me to come to Him. Yes, that is for my good. God is for me! Yes, I am small (weak) but He is strong! The Bible tells me that and I believe it with all my heart. He is faithful and true. Lord, help me to be faithful to you!

1 'Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus,
and to take him at his word;
just to rest upon his promise,
and to know, "Thus saith the Lord."

Refrain:
Jesus, Jesus, how I trust him!
How I've proved him o'er and o'er!
Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus!
O for grace to trust him more!

2 O how sweet to trust in Jesus,
just to trust his cleansing blood;
and in simple faith to plunge me
neath the healing, cleansing flood!

Daily Devotion: Enter With Thanksgiving - Psalm 100:1-5

One of the most beautiful Psalms of Thanksgiving is the 100th Psalm. Please turn to it and read verses one through five. With all my heart I believe we are a people and a nation that has truly been blessed by God. Of all those who “give thanks to Him and praise His name” we should be at the top!  It is not uncommon to compile wish lists at Christmas, and draw up a list of resolutions for the new year. But there is another list we often overlook - a Thanksgiving Day list of all for which we are thankful. What would your list contain? Most likely, a good part would be material possessions. I’m convinced that we would find that we have much more for which to be thankful than just our material possessions.  Like you, I’m sure my list would include the major things - life, health, family, friends, and the nation we live in, despite all its flaws. But even more than that, I’m thankful for my salvation, my Church family, and the mercy that God showers upon us each d...

Daily Devotion: The Peace Of Christ - John 14:27

Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. – John 14:27 As I sit and enjoy the Lord's creation and I feel the cool breeze blow across my skin, I am reminded of the peace that we find when we stop to appreciate the works of God. While we cannot necessarily count on another tomorrow in this world, all of God’s children have the assurance of something purer, something brighter, in the world to come. This brings peace when everything seems chaotic and difficult here and now. Jesus Christ was and remains a complex Person. Not only do we have to wrestle with His dual nature, we must face the depth of His teachings. Many of the Lord’s teachings are easy to grasp even if they are hard to apply. (Have you tried loving your enemies lately?) However, some of the Messiah’s sayings make us think very hard indeed. Isaiah 9:6 famously reveals that the virgin born Son of God would be the Prin...
