Psalm 121:1-2 "I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. (2) My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth."
"I will lift up mine eyes." This Psalm seems to come from the
starting position of eyes, heart, and mind being cast down. David's life seemed
to be filled with ups and downs, highs and lows. But isn't that life for most
of us? We have times when it seems we are on the very top of the mountain in
our spiritual walk. Then it seems that at times, without warning, everything
comes crashing down around us. This is the reason for maintaining our
posture before God in a prayerful manner filled with the Word of God.
"Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me?
hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his
countenance." (Psalm 42:5) We just finished several days of looking at the
importance of staying in the Word. Even on the mountaintop, there is a calling
to lift our eyes toward heaven. If that is true, then isn't it just as
important that we constantly lift our eyes toward heaven? The writer of Hebrews
tells us that we should constantly be "looking unto Jesus, the Author and
Finisher of our faith." The Holy Spirit brings to our remembrance the fact
that our help comes from the Lord who made heaven and earth and all that is in
it. God created all that is in the heaven and earth; therefore, He can surely
handle anything that comes my way. May we be reminded once again today
that our help comes from the Lord who has all power both in heaven and in
earth.
1 Living below in this old sinful world,
Hardly a comfort can afford;
Striving alone to face temptation sore,
Where could I go but to the Lord?
Refrain:
Where could I go? Oh, where could I go
Seeking a refuge for my soul?
Needing a friend to save me in the end,
Where could I go but to the Lord?
2 Neighbors are kind, I love them ev’ry one,
We get along in sweet accord;
But when my soul needs manna from above,
Where could I go but to the Lord? [Refrain]
